This course examines advanced techniques for evaluating the financial stability of a company through its financial statements, and how the financial statements may be used for strategic planning and decision making.

This course focuses on the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of a company’s publicly available financial statements. The creation of spreadsheets for quick analysis is stressed.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 3 Discussions in this course. These Discussions will allow the student to compare and contrast ideas. The student must submit a thread of at least 400 words to the provided prompt. Each thread must include at least 1 scholarly citation in current APA format and at least 1 Bible verse. In addition to the threads, the student must reply to at least 1 classmate’s thread. Each reply must be at least 200 words and include at least 1 scholarly citation in current APA format.

Case Study Assignments (7)

The student will complete case studies based on the weekly concepts from the assigned readings. Each case study must be 500—1,000 words and include at least 2 scholarly citations in current APA format. 

Final Project: Company Analysis and Report Assignment

The student will complete a final project. The purpose of the final project is to allow the student to use all of the concepts studied during the course to analyze a publicly traded company of his/her choice. The student will review the company’s latest published annual report and calculate a minimum of 7 ratios form the ratios studied in this course. After completing the analysis, the student will submit a report on the financial condition of the company and provide a well-supported decision on whether or not to invest in it. This analysis should be at least 57 pages in current APA format and submitted as a Word document with embedded spreadsheets where applicable. At least 5 scholarly citations must be included.
