BUSI 503 Leadership Theory

This course broadly surveys the body of leadership literature with heavy emphasis on the major practical theories. All leadership theories are evaluated in the light of biblical reasoning.

Understanding leadership theory means that one must understand how to build and maintain trust, how to communicate a vision, and how to achieve shared goals. Applying the various concepts of leadership theory will equip any leader with essential tools that enable success in a professional setting.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and incorporate at least 2 peer-reviewed scholarly citations, the textbook, and a biblical perspective in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmate’s threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words and must incorporate at least 2 peer-reviewed scholarly citations (published within the past 5 years), the textbook, and a biblical perspective in current APA format. 

Discussion: Case Studies (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will be reviewing an assigned case study in four modules that relates to a specific leadership theory. There are TWO PARTS to this assignment: a thread responding to specific questions for each case study plus a reply to the post of 2 classmates. Review the specific instructions for this assignment for details. Each thread must be at least 400 words and include at least 2 peer-reviewed scholarly citations, the textbook, and one biblical perspective. The student’s response to 2 classmates must be at least 150 words and include at least 2 peer-reviewed scholarly citations which are unique from the thread, the textbook, and 1 biblical perspective. Current APA formatting must be used in all posts. All outside scholarly sources for the thread and all replies should be published within the past 5 years.

Leadership Profile Assignments (4)

The student will complete 4 Leadership Profile Assignments. For each Leadership Profile Assignment, the student will complete the assigned questionnaires, reflect on his/her strengths and weaknesses, and then create an action plan for applying this information. Each Leadership Profile Assignment must be at least 500 words, contain at least 2 peer-reviewed scholarly citations, the textbook, and a biblical perspective, and must conform to current APA format. A cover page, abstract, and references page is required for these assignments and all outside sources should be published within the past 5 years.

Leadership Journal Assignment (2)

The student will submit 2 Leadership Journal Assignment entries. For each entry, the student will answer the assigned questions by providing explanations as well as relevant examples. Each Leadership Journal Assignment entry must be no less than 500 words, contain at least 2 peer-reviewed, scholarly citations published within the past 5 years, the course textbooks, and a biblical perspective. All papers should include a cover page, abstract, and references page. These papers must conform to current APA format.  

Research Paper: Leaders from the Bible Assignment

The student will write a research-based paper of at least 2,000 words, 8 full pages (not counting the cover page, abstract, or references page), in current APA format that applies the leadership theories from the course to a leader from the Bible. The paper must include at least 8 peer-reviewed scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. All outside peer-reviewed scholarly sources should be published within the past 5 years. 

Quizzes (2)

Each quiz will cover the Reading & Study material for the assigned modules/weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 20 multiple-choice questions, allow 1 attempt, and have a 60-minute time limit.
