Course Description

This course serves as the capstone for all business administration majors. Students integrate the concepts, techniques, and knowledge of the common professional components (CPC) of business administration. Course topics include a review of the CPC, strategic management theory/practices, and business analysis tools. Additionally, the course requires students to undertake a research project that is discipline-specific to strategic management and business decisions within a business environment.

Rationale

There is a need for a capstone experience in the business program that requires multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills including overall strategy, marketing, operations, human resource development, finance, accounting, economics, and behavioral and ethical elements.

Undergraduate Level Business Program Assessment Assignment

Undergraduate Level Business Program Assessment Assignment is designed to evaluate a student’s academic proficiency at the completion of the program. The questions included in this assignment aim at assessing the knowledge and understanding of the material the student has studied throughout the program. Therefore, prior to taking this test, it is recommended that the student review the material covered in the courses previously taken in this program.

Read & Interact Assignments (12)

Each module will have assigned required reading from the text called Read & Interact. These readings will be accessed through the McGraw Hill Connect platform located in the Module’s Learn sections and the Assignments page in Canvas. These readings are labeled with the author(s)’ name(s) and the required chapter number. The student will be required to read and interact with the textbook. There are points associated with each of these reading assignments. At the end of each assigned chapter, Connect will automatically sync his/her grade for the reading to Canvas.

Homework Assignments (6)

These occur during 6 module: weeks and will all be completed through the Connect platform. These question and answer assignments are based on the chapter readings which are also completed through Connect.

Case Study Assignments (4)

The course text provides a series of case studies for analysis and recommendations. These cases are about real-life business problems. The cases will be assigned for individual analysis. Case study and analysis is a very effective method for simulating actual management activity for students as they practice diagnosing strategic issues, evaluating alternative solutions, and recommending workable action plans.

Case Study: Alibaba Assignment: The responses to the case study prompts will be based on the student's reading of the Alibaba case study review in the course text. Submission must be at least 350 words.

Case Study: Apple Written Assignment: The responses to the case study prompts will be based on the student's reading of the Apple case study review in the course text. Submission must be at least 1,000 words.

Case Study: Apple Assignment: This assignment is the multiple choice section of the Apple Case Study and will be completed in the Connect platform.

Case Study: Ford Assignment: The student will develop appropriate business strategies, policies and solutions for Tesla that will create sustainable competitive advantages for the company. For this assignment, the student will write a paper of 7-10 pages.
