BUSI 352 Financial and Retirement Planning

This course is designed to provide an overview of the financial planning process with specific emphasis of retirement planning. Topics discussed will include: client/planner interactions; time value of money applications; personal financial statements development and assessment; cash flow and debt management; asset acquisition; education planning; planning elements of risk management; investment planning; and retirement planning; special needs planning review; integrating planning recommendations; financial planning ethics review; overview of practice management concepts.

This is the first course in the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) program. The course provides the student with an overview of a variety of financial planning topics with a special emphasis on retirement planning. The purpose of the course is to provide the student with a foundation for subsequent course work in the CFP® program and to prepare them to take the national CFP® examination to become a Certified Financial Planner.


Textbook Readings, Lecture Presentations/Notes, and Articles

Information contained in chapters 5, 9, and 12 – 14 are covered in detail in other financial planning courses.  While these chapters will not be tested in this course, the student is highly encouraged to read them.

There are six presentations in this course that add insight to the week’s required reading.

There are two articles that offer insight into the financial planning profession.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will participate in response to the provided prompt by submitting a 400-word thread demonstrating course-related and biblical knowledge. Each thread must be supported by at least two citations from current academic journals. The week after each thread, the student will reply to at least two other classmates’ initial threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words and have at least one citation from current academic journals.

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 75 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 2 hour time limit.
