Course Description

This course integrates a study of individual and group behavior in organizations with management principles and techniques for efficient and effective planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Topics include methods for managing individual differences, diversity, motivation, performance practices, decision making, conflict management, leadership, organizational structure, and organizational change and development.

Rationale

Part of being successful in the workplace is knowing how to work with people. As part of the Liberty University Online Business program, this course equips the student with managerial and behavioral skills so that he or she can successfully contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of business organizations.

Connect Homework Assignments (8)

The student will be assigned read and interact homework to complete in Connect. The homework will consist of LearnSmart assignments. Links to the LearnSmart assignments have been provided in each Module: Week's Learn section.

Self-Assessments (8)

The student will complete 8 self-assessments during the course in preparation for the two discussion activities.  The self-assessments will consist of Connect assignments. Links to the self-assessments have been provided in the respective Module: Week's Learn section.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete several self-assessments and select one to discuss. The student must complete the 4 assessments before posting the initial thread. The student will be required to write a thread of at least 250 words on the key term, complete with page references and specifics to document the response. The thread will then be submitted to the Discussion Thread. Correct use of English and grammar are required.

Additionally, the student will be required to submit a substantive written reply of at least 100 words to at least 2 other classmates’ threads.

Role Playing Assignments (3)

The student will be assigned a Role Playing assignment in Connect. The assignment will consist of activities to apply the material learned in that Module: Week to adaptive real-world scenarios. Links to the Role Playing assignments have been provided in the respective Module: Week's Apply section.

Leadership Interview Assignment

The student will identify and interview an individual who has held a leadership position and utilize the provided interview questions to glean real-world insight on the topic of leadership. The student will then write a paper of at least 500 words, but not to exceed 750 words in addition to a title page, and reference page integrating the responses from the interview and a summary of a scholarly article on leadership. The project must demonstrate an application of course-related knowledge with supporting documentation from the interview, one peer-reviewed article, the textbook, and the Bible.

Quizzes (8)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 25 multiple-choice questions, and have a time limit of 50 minutes.
