BMIS 681 Advanced IT Project Management II

This course explores the organizational aspects of information technology (IT) program management with the aim of providing knowledge, skills and exposure to issues in managing information and utilizing information technology as an asset in organizations. Students completing this course will be better equipped to be managers engaged in defining and implementing information systems opportunities and solutions or as leaders in an Information Systems department. Major topics include: information asset management, strategic information systems planning, information services organization issues, best practices for service level management, IT personnel selection and management, IT Procurement/request for proposal development/vendor selection, and contract negotiation principles.

As this course builds on and develops the skills needed for project execution, management, and close-out, the student who intends to make project work a significant part of their career will benefit. The student interested in earning the PMP Certification will also find this a very useful building block to PMP preparation. Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each Discussion will consist of 2 parts over the course of 2 modules: weeks: an individual thread and individual replies. Each thread must be 500–750 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. Each thread must reference at least 3 peer-reviewed sources and must include at least 1 biblical integration. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least two peers with each reply having 200-250 words. Each reply must reference at least 2 peer-reviewed sources. The instructor is looking for substantial, thoughtful, and critical interaction.

Case Study Project Model Assignment (3)

The student will complete a 3-part project model on a topic of his or her choice. The first part is the Quiz: Case Study Project Model: Topic Submission, in which the student will submit their concept for the project. The second assignment is the Case Study Project Model: Forms and Matrices Assignment. This assignment must include a Project Proposal Overview, a Project Proposal Form, a Responsibility Matrix, a Risk Assessment Matrix, and a Stakeholder Communication Plan. The final assignment is the Case Study Project Model: Project File Assignment. This will be created using Microsoft Project, and must include a detailed description of the project, list of principle deliverables, and a breakdown of all necessary tasks, project dates, costs, and resources.

Each quiz will cover the Reading & Study material for the assigned modules/weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 1 hour and 15 minute time limit.
