The Bible is the foundational source for our faith. In this time of increasing biblical illiteracy, the student should be further motivated to know and study the Word of God. This course seeks to provide an overview of the historical books of the Old Testament in its context and application for today.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will be required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words. (CLO: A, B, C)

The first phase of a three-phase project will be an overview of a historical book of the Old Testament. The student will choose a book and write an introduction and outline of the book, integrate major themes and figures, and provide a substantial application for today. This paper will be 3-5 pages. (CLO: A, B, C)

This second phase of the Historical Books Project will expand upon the theme already developed in the first phase of this project. The student will analyze the theme both in the historical book chosen as well as throughout Scripture. The paper will conclude with an application section for believers today. This paper will be 2-4 pages. (CLO: A, B, C)

The student will select 1 figure he/she has already identified from the first phase of this project. This last step of the Historical Book Project will further analyze a character from his/her selected book in his/her presentation in Scripture and apply the lessons from his/her life to believers today. This paper will be 2-4 pages. (CLO: A, B, C)

The student will write a short reflection to reflect on the historical books of the Old Testament. He/she will assess why the historical books are important in the overall story of the Bible, how the historical books display God and his character, and include one item he/she were convicted of in the historical books. (CLO: A, B, C)

Quiz: Joshua – 2 Samuel

The student will take 1 open book/open note quiz to demonstrate an understanding of the historical books of the Old Testament. The quiz, based on course reading, will be a 50-question multiple-choice and true/false test totaling 125 points. The student must complete quizzes in one sitting in the allotted time given.
