Course Description
A study of the growth and development of the first century Church as recorded by the accurate historian, Luke. Special attention will be given to the activity of the Holy Spirit in the ministries of Peter and Paul.

Rationale
Students in this degree program should know the general background of the time of the Apostles, including chronology, geography, social customs, historical backgrounds, and events within the first century New Testament Church. Also, students should be aware of both specific and general issues, problems, and areas of concern that have faced Christian scholars surrounding the book of Acts, as well as the early Church as a whole.

The student will complete the assigned reading from the Bible and course textbooks and will view the videos for each Module: Week.

Discussions (4)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to participate in each Discussion by posting a 300-word thread in response to the instructor’s prompt. The student is also required to submit 200-word replies to 2 other classmates’ threads. More detailed guidance is given in the instructions for each of the discussions. (CLOs: C, D, E, F)
Thematic Analysis Assignments (3)
The student will write three essays in which he/she analyzes the thematic development in each of the 3 broad movements of the book of Acts (chapters 1–7, 8–12, and 13–28). More detailed guidance is given in the instructions for each of the essays. (CLOs: B, F)
Quizzes (5)
The student will complete five open-book/open-notes quizzes. Each quiz will contain 20 multiple-choice, true/false, matching, and/or fill-in-the-blank questions. Additionally, each quiz will be timed with a 50-minute time limit. (CLOs: A, E, F)
Acts Flow Chart Assignment
This assignment will be completed throughout the term and submitted in Module 8: Week 8. As the student reads the book of Acts, he or she will fill out the provided template, giving each chapter of Acts an appropriate title, writing out a key verse from the chapter that supports the title, and identifying the three major events of the chapter. More detailed instructions are provided in the template. (CLOs: B, F)
