AVIA 537 Aviation Organizational Leadership

Students will explore and investigate issues and problems that are unique to leading in aviation organizations. The course will cover methods of strategic planning and effective leadership in an environment of rapidly changing technology, world-wide impact, vast media attention, strict regulatory regimes, and other factors.

Aerospace organizations are unique in terms of technology, communication, regulatory regimes, media focus, and other areas.  Aviation professionals should strive to gain understanding of how to lead effectively in the unique aerospace environment.

Textbook Readings and Interaction

The student will complete assigned readings and interact with McGraw Hill Connect resources. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Video Discussion: Class Introductions

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will submit a 5-minute maximum video presentation introducing his/herself to his/her fellow classmates. Specific elements described in the assignment are to be included. This will be a graded assignment, and the student must submit 150-word replies to at least two other classmate introductions as well.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, there are eight Discussions to be completed in this course. The student is required to post one thread of at least 500 words and two replies of at least 250 words to two classmates’ threads. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Case Study Assignments (3)

Students will read a summary of a real-world organization and apply course principles by answering multiple choice questions.  (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Essay Assignments (4)

The student will research an aviation organization and write an essay on each week’s topic. The essay will be 2-3 pages in APA format and use a minimum of 3 scholarly sources. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)
