AVIA 440 Multi-Engine Flight

Introduction to multi-engine flight and all related maneuvers in preparation for the FAA Multi-Engine Rating. The residential course requires 20 hours of flight training. This course requires in-person flight training for all programs, including the B.S. in Aeronautics, B.S. in Aviation, B.S. in Aviation Technology, and B.S. in Unmanned Aircraft Operations. The purpose of this course is to integrate the information learned during AVIA 430 (Multi-Engine Theory) into the practical FAA requirements to become a certified multi-engine pilot. The requirements of this course come from FAA Air Circular AC 61-65E regulations. Completion of this course will prepare the student to take the FAA in-flight practical check flight.

The student must submit a 2–3-minute video introduction. The student may use a multi-media platform of choice to record the video. However, Kaltura is recommended. Specific elements stated within the discussion prompt must be included. The video must be at least 2 minutes in length. This will be a graded assignment. The student must also reply to at least 2 classmates’ introductions. Each reply must contain at least 150 words, including a question or a relevant follow-up response to guide the discussion.

Video Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must complete various Video Discussions in this course. Each student will post a video thread submission for each Video Discussion. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 150 words each. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with 2 scholarly sources and 1 instance of biblical integration in APA format with sources listed as References at the end of the post.

As the student progresses through the Flight Training Syllabus at the Flight Training Affiliate, it is very important that the student stays on pace to complete the “Percent of TCO” requirement before the end of the course. To help the student stay fully aware of his/her own progress and to keep the professor informed, the student will upload the “Percent of TCO Form” verifying “percent of TCO” progress halfway through the course and before the final module of the course. This form will provide crucial information exchanged between all stakeholders (professor, student, and flight instructor/FTA).

In order to pass this class, the student must complete his/her Multi-Engine training at an approved Part 141 Flight Training Affiliate (FTA). Once complete, the student must submit both a Part 141 Graduation Certificate and either a copy of the FAA Multi-Engine Add-On Rating (front and back), or a temporary FAA Multi-Engine Add-On Rating. The student will write a 2–3-page paper (not including title and references) in APA format reflecting on his/her flight training experience. This experience includes both the academic work completed as well as the percent of TCO completed during flight training at the FTA.

The FTA Student Handbook provides essential information and requirements for the successful completion of the student’s flight training program. This quiz will ask the student to acknowledge that he/she has read the FTA Student Handbook provided in the SOA Flight Student Community as well as any and all information provided within the Liberty University ATLAS website. This quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 yes/no question, have a 1-hour time limit, and allow 1 attempt.

Flight Progress Report Quizzes (8)

The Flight Course Progress Report helps the student track his/her progress through the Pilot Training Course Outline at his/her Flight Training Affiliate while keeping the professor informed of the training experience. This report serves as both a personal record of the student’s flight training journey and a tool for the professor to monitor the student’s development. Staying on pace with course requirements is essential for successful completion by the end of the semester. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 essay and 8 numerical answer questions, and have a 1-hour time limit.
