CG • Section 8WK • 11/08/2019 to 04/16/2020 • Modified 09/05/2023

Course Description

This course will cover the scope of regulations concerning aviation and how they impact the pilot. The course will provide basic understanding of the human factors concepts including psychological and physiological limitations of humans operating in complex environments. In addition, the course will include an in-depth study of Crew Resource Management, which involves understanding of the flight deck environment and the proper utilization of resources available to the aviator.

For information regarding prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.

Rationale

Depending on the sector of aviation being described, statistics indicate the 65% to 90% of all aircraft accidents are the result of errors made by the flight crew.  Human errors often arise out of normal physiological and physiological limitations inherent in the human condition.  Therefore, an understanding of both the physiological and psychological limitations of the flight crew performance, and the ability to manage them, is essential for reducing the incidents of errors made on the flight deck.
