Rationale
Principles of Ground will be a ground course for non-flight majors. This course will allow those students, who will not become pilots, the ground knowledge to be successful in the aviation industry.
Course Assignment
Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Discussion: Class Introductions
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must submit a 2 – 3 minute video introduction. Each student may use a multi-media platform of their choice to record their video. However, Kaltura is recommended. Specific elements stated within the discussion board prompt must be included. This will be a graded assignment. Each student must also reply to at least 2 classmates’ introductions. Replies must contain at least 150 words, including a question or a relevant follow-up response to guide the discussion.
Discussions (5)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete various Discussions in this course. Each student will post an initial thread of 500 words of the assigned module week for each Discussion. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 250 words. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread/replies.
Reflection/Connecting Paper Assignments (2)
The student will write a 250-word minimum reflection/connect story from the weekly reading and use the work/family life or pull from weekly instructional material with an inspirational, faith-centered theme. Relate a scripture or biblical reference that connects with the story/topic.
PowerPoint Project Assignments (2)
The student will create 2 PowerPoint presentations during the class on 2 different topics in different modules. This assignment is designed to help the student to get a more in-depth look into Aircraft Systems and Airport Operations.
Interview Project Assignments (2)
The student will complete two Interview Project assignments. This assignment will help expose the student to potentially many different careers of the aviation field. Since no two aviation career paths have the same journey to get where they are, no two-stories will be the same – be creative and have fun with this assignment. Since this class is designed to introduce the non-pilot to aviation related job activities, the desired person to interview should be somebody within the aviation career filed. The person can be actively working or retired from the job, but the career must be within the aviation arena. Examples of this are, but not limited to: pilots, maintenance technicians, flight attendants, airport operations, or air traffic control. The goal for this assignment is to get an in-depth look into an aviation career path for non-pilots.
Quizzes (9)
The student will complete 7 open-book, open-notes quizzes. These assessments will include 25 multiple-choice and true/false questions. Each quiz will be based on the material from the assigned module: week’s Learn sections. The student will have 1 hour and 30 minutes (90 minutes) to complete each quiz. The student will also complete a Quiz: Mid-Term and Quiz: Final Exam.
