Course Description

Students will pursue areas of interest through research related to interactive design and apply advanced visual theories to construct design systems in an interactive user centered environment. Advanced understanding and theory of interactive technology and application in contextual frameworks in relation to the user are explored and developed. May be taken twice.

Rationale

Interactive design must be adapted into the visual artist’s workflow and design process. Being able to comprehend and implement cohesive interactive iterations is paramount to the design industry.

Discussions (8)

Discussion are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates. Each reply must be at least 150 words.

Research Project Assignments (8)

Building off of the student’s research, a visually-executed response will be constructed based on the student’s findings and results.

Research Project: Proposal Assignment

The student will create a proposal for his or her chosen project related to interactive design and his or her overall subject focus while pursuing an MFA.

Research Project: Milestone Discussions (5)

Each module: week that a Milestone is due, the student will submit his or her work in progress to the appropriate Milestone Discussion for peer review and critique. The student will be awarded points for his or her participation in the forum.

Research Project: Presentation Assignment

The student will create a presentation to showcase his or her research project. The student may use PowerPoint or PDF to present findings. The student may also publish findings in an interactive format such as a custom website.

Research Project: Final Submission Assignment

The student will submit a multi-page PDF document and/or link to his/her interactive design solution. The presentation should take on a professional approach and communicate the development/research process along with the final designs. There is no required assignment length.

App Analysis Assignments (4)

The student will listen to assigned podcasts and perform an analysis covering the following sections: Developer’s Biography and Podcast Summary, Micro Review, and Macro Review. All writing must be graduate-level and in current MLA format. Each analysis must include at least 2 sources and be at least 2 pages.

Quizzes (8)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module: week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 5 – 10 multiple-choice, true/false, and multiple-answer questions, and have a time limit of 20 minutes.
