ARTS 398 Studio and Digital Arts Practicum

This course is set up as a working art and graphic design studio experience that will provide students with the vital experience, hands on working experience from conceptualization through production.

The course offers the student the opportunity to gain practical experience in the specialization of art/design and to gain academic credit for his/her learning. Through personal development planning, the student will be encouraged to seek opportunities in organizations that are both appropriate to his/her needs and professional in their approach to clients and staff. Furthermore, this course will support the student in ensuring that these objectives are met as fully as possible.

Weekly Attendance Verification Quizzes (8)

The student will complete a short weekly quiz to verify attendance and course activity. 

Proposal Assignment

The student will write at least 250 words detailing the work (deliverables) that he/she intends to generate for the course. The Proposal contents must clearly and concisely explain what the deliverables are, how the work supplements the student’s professional and academic goals, and the proposed timeline for development and completion. Please note: This assignment is a required submission for the course. If the proposal is not submitted or approved, other assignments are marked at zero.

Journal Entry Assignments (2)

The student will use the template provided in Canvas to log Journal Entries based on his/her daily practicum experience. Each daily entry must be at least 50 words. Please note: the student must complete the required number of contact hours (based on credit hours) and total the amount on the final Journal Entry in order to pass the course regardless of point totals. 

Supervisor Evaluation: Midterm Assignment

The student will have his/her supervisor complete an evaluation of the student’s work using the provided evaluation form. Please note: This assignment is a required submission for the course. If the assignment is not submitted, the student will not pass the course regardless of point totals.

Supervisor Evaluation: Final Assignment

The student will have his/her supervisor complete an evaluation of the student’s work using the provided evaluation form. Please note:This assignment is a required submission for the course. If the assignment is not submitted, the student will not pass the course regardless of point totals.

Deliverable: Midterm Assignment

Using a video format, the student will submit a 2-minute video presentation of the body of work previously outlined in the Proposal for Module 4. The student is required to submit a minimum of 10 images of his/her practicum work for the Midterm: Deliverable Assignment. Please note: This assignment is a required submission for the course. If the assignment is not submitted, the student will not pass the course regardless of point totals.

Deliverable: Final Assignment

Using a video format, the student will submit a 4-minute video presentation of the body of work previously outlined in the Proposal for Module 8. The student is required to submit a minimum of 20 images of his/her practicum work for the Final Deliverable. Please note: This assignment is a required submission for the course. If the assignment is not submitted, the student will not pass the course regardless of point totals.
