ACCT 209 Survey of Accounting and Finance

This course provides the basics of financial analysis and management for non-business majors. Topics in this course will include financial reporting, underlying accounting assumptions, performance measures, ratio analysis, cash flow, time value of money, and budgeting.

The basics of financial analysis and management are important considerations for the student in a non-business related field. While these other fields may not need the in-depth basics of financial accounting, managerial accounting, or finance, the ability to analyze financial statements and make useful business decisions are important considerations for each non-business major.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be at least 400 words, contain at least 2 scholarly references in current APA format, and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words and include at least 2 scholarly references.

Read & Interact Assignments (8)

The student will complete 8 weekly Read & Interact assignments which reinforce the student’s understanding of the material covered in the chapters.

Connect Plus Homework Assignments (8)

The student will be assigned homework to complete in Connect Plus. The Connect Plus access is provided within the course. In order to gain access to Connect Plus, the student may either purchase the textbook listed in the Course Resources section above with the access code or purchase the access code separately via the bookstore or the Connect website. 

Faith Essay Assignment

The student will write an 800-word Faith Essay in current APA format that focuses on how biblical concepts are related to the fields of accounting and finance. The Faith Essay must include at least 3 peer-reviewed references.

Quizzes (8)

There will be 8 open-book/open-notes Reading Quizzes, which will contain 10 true/false and/or numeric questions. Each quiz will cover the materials for the module in which it is assigned. The student will have 45 minutes to complete each quiz.
