Course Description

This course deals with principles for team building in the African American worship tradition. Studies include but are not limited to: working as a pastor/worship leader team, organizational management, conflict resolution, people skills, and personnel management.

Rationale

African American worship contains a rich history filled with cultural and social relevance. Cultivating a deeper understanding of generational teachings and the intersectionality of traditional and contemporary dynamics are paramount to examining team building challenges and opportunities to enfold the core mission of worship.

Discussions (6)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, each student is required to submit an initial thread for each discussion. Each thread must be 500-600 words in length and demonstrate course related knowledge. The initial thread must reference 3 sources. The student must reply to 2 other classmates' threads and each reply must be 300 words and include at least 2 citations. All posts must follow the current Turabian format.

Book Summary Assignments (2)

The student is to complete a book report of Spiritual Leadership by Geoffrey Guns and Sticky Teams by Larry Osborne. The book analysis should include three sections: summary, analysis, and personal/practical application. The book analysis should be a minimum of 5 pages. The book summary should be written in current Turabian format and include a title page.

Things to Remember Assignments (5)

Reflections will be written in the form of journal entries. The reflection should include: An analysis of the readings and application. Each journal entry must be at least 300 words using current Turabian format.

Research Paper: Annotated Bibliography Assignment

In preparation for the research paper, the student will provide an annotated bibliography with 15-20 scholarly sources. The bibliography must include a brief description of at least 50 words for each source and follow current Turabian format.

Research Paper Assignment

The student will submit a 15-20-page research paper on team building in African American worship. The paper must be written in current Turabian format, and include a title page and bibliography. The paper must include 15–20 references.
