Course Description
This course oversees the research and writing process for the completion of the graduate thesis as directed by the thesis mentor and reader.

Rationale
THES 689 facilitates thesis writing for the Master's student from the point of the introduction through the concluding chapter. Based on an approved proposal, the student will write their thesis during the THES 689 course and complete it to the degree that satisfactory progress is made to be able to defend their work in THES 690. Progress will be evaluated between the student and their thesis mentor to confirm breadth of research and the quality of the thesis document. As the student completes their thesis, the focus shifts to confirmation of readiness for the thesis defense.
Course Assignment
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Thesis
The student will write and submit the first draft of the introduction and chapter 1 of his/her Master's thesis. Content should follow that outlined in his/her approved thesis proposal. (CLO: A, B, D)

The student will submit the revised draft of the introduction and chapter 1 of his/her thesis. This draft should reflect revisions based on mentor feedback from the first draft submission. (CLO: D, E)

Thesis

The student will submit the completed revised draft of his/her thesis including all chapters (introduction through conclusion). This draft should reflect revisions based on mentor feedback from the first draft submissions and further research throughout the course of completing subsequent chapters. (CLO: D, E)
The student will schedule a consultation with his/her mentor to discuss his/her likelihood of being ready to defend his/her work and move on to THES 690 and what he/she would need to do in order to be prepared for this in the coming weeks. The student will submit a 200–400-word report on the suggestions of the mentor to allow him/her to be prepared to move on to THES 690 or his/her recognition that he/she will need to repeat THES 689 in order to do further work to become ready to defend his/her thesis. Quiz
The student will meet virtually with his/her mentor to establish expectations and a working relationship for the completion of the Master's thesis. These meetings will be verified through quizzes. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 true/false question, and will have a no time limit. (CLO: A, C, E)
