SOWK 643 Child and Family Social Work Clinical Practice

Child and Family Social Work Clinical Practice provides the opportunity for students to develop competency in child and family therapeutic practice. Emphasis is placed on the use of research-informed practice.

This course aids the students in developing competency in the areas of engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation when working with children and families. It prepares students with evidence-based research, knowledge, and skills necessary for advanced generalist clinical social work practice.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will engage in three course discussions regarding relevant course content. The student will post one thread of at least 350 words, then post 2 replies of at least 200 words each. (CLO: A, B, E, F, G, H, I; Competencies: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9: Dimensions: Knowledge, Values, Cognitive & Affective Processes)

Video Discussions (2)

Video discussions are collaborative learning experiences. They allow the student to see other styles of practice and learn from his/her classmates.  Therefore, the student will engage in one video discussion regarding relevant course content. The student will post one video thread of at least 8-10 minutes. The student will also reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each written reply must be at least 200 words. (CLO: A, B, D, E; Competencies: 1, 2, 4, 6; Dimensions: Knowledge, Values, Skills, Cognitive & Affective Processes).

Quad Role Play Assignments (2)

The student will participate in 2 quad role play assignments throughout the term.  These assignments give the student an opportunity to practice his/her clinical skills (CLO: A, D, F, G, H, I; Competencies: 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9: Dimensions: Knowledge, Values, Skills, Cognitive & Affective Processes)

Quizzes (7)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module(s): week(s). Each quiz will be open book/open notes, contain 5 multiple choice and true/false questions, and have no time limit. (CLOs: A, B, F, G, H, I; Competencies 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 Knowledge)

Quiz: Final Exam

The student will have a chance to reflect on and apply key concepts from the course. This quiz will contain 3 short answer questions and have no time limit. (CLOs: A, B, F, G, H, I; Competencies 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 Knowledge)
