Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread and 2 replies clearly presenting his/her thoughts and showing a clear reflection on key concepts in response to the provided topic for each Discussion. Discussion threads that answer the question(s) presented must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge and mastery of key issues, interacting with the course research and supporting the thread with at least 3 scholarly, peer-reviewed, empirical research articles and integrating biblical principles with at least one Scripture reference. In addition to the main thread, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words and must be presented from an academic and biblical perspective by including at least one scholarly, peer-reviewed, empirical research article and at least one Scripture reference. All sources must be cited in current APA format, including both in-text citations and references. All posts must be well organized and well developed, with proper spelling and grammar throughout. Please see instructions for each Discussion. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Annotated Bibliography Assignments (3)

  • Research Presentation: Part 1 – Topic & Annotated Bibliography Assignment
  • Research Presentation: Part 2 – Annotated Bibliography Assignment
  • Research Presentation: Part 3 – Annotated Bibliography Assignment

In preparation of the Research Presentation: Part 5 – Narrated PowerPoint Assignment, the student will prepare three annotated bibliographies of articles that will be used in his/her presentation. Each annotated bibliography submission will include a minimum of 7 scholarly, peer-reviewed, empirical research articles (for a total of 21 articles on the topic). The first annotated bibliography submission will also include a clear, one-sentence description of the current topic of research in social psychology the student has chosen on the second page of the assignment. Each Annotated Bibliography Assignment is expected to be in proper, scholarly annotated bibliography format (with each reference followed by an article summary). Each annotation must summarize the main points of the article in the student’s own words without copying/pasting information directly from the source. Each annotation will consist of 1 sentence on the purpose of the study, a few sentences on the methods, a few sentences on the findings, and 1 sentence on the application to the student’s project. There is no required page length, but each student is encouraged to write detailed enough annotations to be useful for preparing the Research Presentation: Part 5 – Narrated PowerPoint Assignment. The assignment must include a title page and sources cited in current APA format. The content must be presented in a clear, concise, and logical way, with effective transition statements between ideas and appropriate grammar, spelling, and sentence structure used throughout. Please see the instructions for each Annotated Bibliography Assignment. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Research Proposal Assignment

The purpose of this Research Presentation: Part 4 – Research Proposal Assignment is to practice creating a practical, plausible experimental design. In this assignment, the student will develop the research methods for his/her proposal. The student is expected to find a gap in the current research (discovered through his/her Annotated Bibliography Assignments) that would be a logical next step in research. This must be something that has not already been done but is plausible and possible. The assignment must be a Word document with a title page (and reference page if necessary) in proper APA formatting and paragraph form. Excluding the title page and reference page, the body of the paper should not exceed 2 pages. The assignment must include the purpose and hypothesis of the student’s proposed study, a specific description of participants (including the total number and any inclusion/exclusion criteria), and a specific description of the proposed methodology (including any specific tests, measures, or questions). The proposal must be presented in a scholarly style with appropriate grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation throughout. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Narrated PowerPoint Assignment

For the Research Presentation: Paper 5 – Narrated PowerPoint Assignment, the student will prepare a 30–35-minute narrated PowerPoint presentation on his/her research topic. In the PowerPoint presentation, the student will describe his/her area of research in an introductory slide that tells the audience the purpose of the presentation and the topic. Other slides in the body of the presentation should evaluate the current state of the research (including discussion of relevant concepts and studies and current overall conclusions), offer a biblical discussion of the topic (including Scripture and ways to examine/understand the concepts being reviewed), identify gaps in the research that need further study, and introduce the student’s proposed study to address the gaps. The core of the presentation will be on the proposed study, and the student must address the following: the purpose of the proposed study, proposed research questions, a proposed method to collect data to answer the research questions, and how the findings from the study would further the research area. The presentation will also include a concluding slide (with a summary and conclusion) and at least one reference slide. The presentation will include sources cited and referenced in current APA style. The student will also narrate the presentation, being sure to speak clearly and conversationally and avoid monotone delivery. The student should not read from a script but deliver the presentation as if in a conference or classroom setting. The presentation must be presented clearly, with graphics; short, bullet-pointed phrases (no paragraphs or long sentences); and information and transitions to help audience follow the argument. The presentation must be presented in scholarly style, with appropriate grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation throughout. Please see the instructions for the Research Presentation: Paper 5 – Narrated PowerPoint Assignment for more information. (CLO: A, B, C, D)
