Course Description

Examination of personnel psychology. Topics include workforce planning, recruitment and selection of employees, performance criteria and appraisal, job analysis, job evaluation, and compensation. (Crosslisted with MSPS 660)

Rationale

This course presents the student with theory, research, and practical implementation in the concepts related to personnel and performance appraisals. As a future employee and/or employer, this gives the student the knowledge and the practice of working with and understanding organizational issues related to both personnel and performance management. This course is essential to understanding and working in and for organizations, as personnel and performance management are cornerstone issues that directly relate to the performance/functionality of the organization.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 400 words and must use at least 4 citations in current APA format and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates' threads. Each reply must be at least 100 words and use at least one citation in current APA format. Research Study Review Assignments (2)

The student will write 2 Research Study Reviews, one in Module 2: Week 2 and one in Module 5: Week 5 that relate to the performance appraisal topic for the assigned Module: Week. The student will read a current quantitative research study that has been published in a journal article within the past 5 years. The student will then summarize the research in their own words (minimum word count is 500 words) following set guidelines in the instructions that keep the focus of the review on the most important aspects of the study. Quizzes (10)

There will be 6 quizzes that cover the assigned textbook reading. Each quiz will cover the textbook reading for the assigned Module: Week. These quizzes contain 25 true/false and multiple choice questions, are open-book/open-notes, have a 25 minute time limit. (CLOs: A, C, D)

There will be 2 quizzes that are in response to case studies provided in the textbook. These 2 quizzes contain 15-16 multiple choice questions, are open-book/open-notes, have a 30 minute time limit. (CLOs: A, C, D, E)

There is 1 quiz that covers textbook readings from Module 1: Week 1 through Module 4: Week 4. This quiz contains 5 essay questions, is open-book/open-notes and has a 2 hour time limit. (CLOs: A, B, C, D)

There is 1 quiz that covers textbook readings and presentations from Module 1: Week 1 through Module 8: Week 8. This quiz contains 50 multiple choice questions, is open-book/open-notes and has a 50 minute time limit. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
