MUSC 888 Thesis Proposal Research I

This is the first course for doctoral candidates who are developing a research study for a doctoral thesis. Doctoral candidates will create a thesis proposal by composing chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the thesis, which will include a detailed introduction, literature review, and presentation of methodology relevant to the research study.

It is important that the doctoral student engage in research and present a capstone paper summarizing their research. The capstone thesis allows the student the opportunity to research and present a capstone paper.

Capstone: Progress Check Assignments (8)

The student will submit the most recent version of his/her capstone, evidence of substantive research, clear outlines of a chapter, or progress on the manuscript or other required documents. Proposal and manuscript drafts should align with the appropriate School of Music Capstone Template. The submission will be reviewed by his/her capstone chair for improvement over previous drafts. The document must show substantive improvement over each previous submission in relation to quality and quantity.

Quiz: Starting the Capstone Journey

The DME Handbook provides essential information to the successful start and completion of the program requirements. This quiz will lead to the link for the student’s Handbook, and he/she will be asked to agree to the DME Handbook Acknowledgment. In addition, the student will provide a schedule of available meeting dates, and provide the most recent proposal for their planned capstone. The quiz will cover the Learn material from the assigned module. The quiz will have 1 multiple-choice, 1 essay, and 1 file upload question, allow 1 attempt, and have no time limit. 

Quiz: Initial Meeting Participation and Capstone Direction

In this quiz, the student confirms his/her participation in the initial meeting and offers a summary of his/her capstone plan based on the outcome of the meeting. The quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. The quiz will contain 1 essay question, allow 1 attempt, and have no time limit.
