Course Description

An introduction to the foundational skills and fields for executing effective military operations and defending the United States of America at home and its interests abroad.

This course will introduce students to what it means to conduct research in the military analysis fled. The student will not only learn the specifics of how to write a research paper but also the process of studying the military. The student will also be introduced to the biblical foundation for the study of the military, career opportunities with military analysis, and the value of the studying military analysis.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the origins of professional armies.
  2. Identify and describe the evolution of the modern combined arms team from the 20th century to the present on the conventional battlefield.
  3. Identify the key tenets of US Joint Doctrine and describe its application.
  4. Identify and describe the various aspects of the current and projected future threat environment.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words.

PowerPoint Presentation Assignment

After reviewing the necessary materials, the student will compose a PowerPoint Presentation giving an overview of the Joint Doctrine of the US Armed Forces. The presentation will be composed of 10 content slides, 1 title slide, and 1 summary slide, for a total of 12 slides. 

Additionally, the student will include at least 100 words of presentation notes in the Notes section of each PowerPoint slide.

Research Proposal and Annotated Bibliography Assignment

The student will write a research proposal using the template provided that focuses on the topic to be studied.  The proposal will address the process by which a student answers a question which is both of significance and pertains to the course material.  The proposal will also discuss the principal sources and methods for research.  The Annotated Bibliography will be written in current Turabian Format. 

Research Paper Assignment

The student will write a 10 page research-based paper in current Turabian format that focuses on a topic related to the course material or current US military affairs. The paper must be approved by the course instructor.  The topic must include at least five references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Quizzes (3)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Week(s). Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 16 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 30 minute time limit.
