INFO 320 Healthcare Informatics

Evaluates the needs of end users within the healthcare system; multi-phase project planning, evaluation, adoption, and management of new technologies centered on effectively and efficiently exchanging electronic health information; evaluation of medical practice workflows and exploration of the functional needs of end-users while analyzing the fiscal and human resource commitments needed in diverse settings.

Health Informatics, an evolving field, utilizes information technology to collect, store, process, and communicate data and knowledge related to the delivery and support of healthcare. A diverse discipline, Health Informatics incorporates processes, procedures, theories, and concepts from computer and information sciences, health sciences, and the social sciences. The ultimate goal of health informatics is to provide efficient and effective access, retrieval, and support in managing healthcare information while improving the overall health status of all.

Discussions (5)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each initial post must be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the initial post, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ posts. Each reply must be at least 150 words. Each discussion post must include a Scripture reference and at least 1 citation in current APA format.

Discussion: Case Studies (3)

The student is required to participate in Discussion: Case Studies in order to generate discussion, interact with each case study, and reflect on other students’ perspectives. The student is required to post 1 thread of at least 500 words in response to the assigned case study. The student will then post replies of at least 150 words to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each thread and reply must include an integration of biblical principles and have at least 1 Scripture reference and 1 additional scholarly resource cited in current APA format.

Research Project: Annotated Bibliography and Outline

Research Project: Annotated Bibliography-

The student will research 5 scholarly articles from peer-reviewed journals in order to establish information for the final document of the Research Project. The student will use a provided template to annotate each source. Current APA format must be used.  The student is required to read all instructor feedback and implement it on future assignments.

Research Project: Outline-

The student will complete a full sentence outline in preparation for the final document of the Research Project. The outline will include a thesis statement, the research question(s)/issues being answered/addressed, how much space will be allotted to each section of the paper, and a preliminary reference list of at least 5 sources. The student is required to read all instructor feedback and implement it on future assignments.

Research Project: Final Document

The student will work on a 5-page paper in current APA format, complying with the formatting and content instructions. The topic of the paper will be selected by the student and will focus on a current issue concerning the use of health informatics in quality management and decision support within the healthcare industry.

Quizzes (6)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 40 multiple-choice and/or multiple answer questions, and will have a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Each quiz is worth 40 points.
