Course Description

Foundational review of the relationship between pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic knowledge; safe administration of medication; emphasis on the reasoning behind selection of route, dosage, and dosing schedules of medications provided to patients across their lifespan; legal and professional issues surrounding the safe administration of medication.

Rationale

The student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the terms, concepts, and processes in medication administration and pharmacology terminology upon completion. Application and knowledge of the drugs, side effects, adverse effects, and management will be critical areas of administration and teaching areas within healthcare delivery.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. The threads and replies will be broken up over 2 modules, with the thread in the first Module: Week and the reply in the following. Each thread must be at least 400 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include at least 2 scholarly references. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads and also to respond to any classmates who reply to him/her. Each reply must be at least 300 words and contain at least 2 scholarly references.

Pharmacology Development and Stages Assignment

The student will write a 1,000-word research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the development and stages of pharmacology. The paper must include at least 5 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Medications within the Stages Assignment

The student will write a 1,000-word research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the stages within medications. In addition, the paper must include an example table that will provide a minimum of 10 medications learned from Module 1: Weeks 1 - Module 4: Week 4. The paper must include at least 5 scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Explorations of New Medications Assignment

The student will write a 1,000-word research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the exploration of new medications. The paper must include at least 5 scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Principles of Medication Therapy Assignment

The student will write a 1,500-word research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the principles of medication therapy. The paper must include at least 8 scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

Quizzes (5)

The student will complete 5 quizzes in this course. Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned modules: weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 20 multiple-choice questions, and have a 30-minute time limit.
