Course Description

An extended supervised field experience targeted to enhance teaching skills in the classroom.

Prerequisite

Education Teacher Licensure with a score of 5 or (Background Clear Out of State with a score of 5 or Background Clear Virginia with a score of 5 or Background Clear International with a score of 5 or Background Check Clearance with a score of 5) and EDUC 205

Note: This is a capstone course. It should be the last course taken.

Rationale

Field experiences in specific areas of academic interests are necessary for professional growth and development. This course is for candidates who are not pursuing licensure.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Discuss how the three components in the Conceptual Framework integrate into the context of teaching situations. (PRE-A1)
  2. Present documentation about a topic that enhances the ability of teachers in a specific area of teaching. (PRE-A1)
  3. Develop a project related to the field of education which demonstrates the professional development of a Christian world view pertinent to Christian, public, and private schools. (PRE-A1; PRE-C5)
  4. Use grading rubrics to assess various written and verbal presentations. (PRE-A1; PRE-B2, B3, B4)
  5. Discuss with other educational professionals elements pertaining to continual professional growth. (PRE-C5)

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

Course Overview Quiz

In Module/Week 1, the candidate is required to review all documents contained in the Course Syllabus and Assignment Instructions folder. After reviewing the documents, the candidate needs to complete the Overview of EDUC 390 Quiz. (MLO: A)

Discussion Board Forums (2)

Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each initial thread must be at least 250 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include at least one citation in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 100 words. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Field Experience Assignments

Throughout this course, the candidate is required to complete 300 hours in a field placement. All 300 hours must be documented in order to pass the course. Thus, the field experience is a foundational element in the course assignments. Field Experience-related assignments include:

Placement Verification Form

In Module/Week 1, the candidate will complete the Placement Verification Form. This form will include information about the school and the host teacher. It will also include a schedule agreement that must be discussed with the host teacher and signed by the host teacher before submitting. (MLO: A, B, E)

Professionalism Quiz

In Module/Week 1, the candidate will complete the Professionalism Quiz. This quiz includes 10 questions that ensure the candidate has a clear understanding of what is expected in terms of acting and dressing in a professional manner according to Liberty University standards. (MLO: A, B)

Field Experience Log

By Module/Week 1, the candidate must begin completing their field experience. The Field Experience Log must be used to track his/her hours throughout the placement. The Field Experience Log is completed by the candidate as he/she visits the approved placement. The log must be completed in LiveText, with all hours approved by the host teacher, by Monday of Module/Week 15. (MLO: B)

Field Experience Learning Summary

In Module/Week 14, the candidate will complete a Field Experience Learning Summary based on the questions and prompts provided in the Field Experience Learning Summary document and submit the assignment in Blackboard. This assignment must also be added to the candidate’s portfolio in LiveText. (MLO: A, B, C)

Preliminary Performance Assessment

In Module/Week 8, the Preliminary Performance Assessment will be completed by the host teacher to evaluate the candidate’s performance in the placement. This form must be completed by the host teacher in Livetext (FEM). (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Final Performance Assessment

In Module/Week 15, the Final Performance Assessment will be completed by the host teacher to evaluate the candidate’s performance in the placement. This form must be completed by the host teacher in Livetext (FEM). (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Lesson Assignments

The candidate will complete three weekly teaching lesson plans with the template provided. After each full teaching week (Weeks A-C) the candidate will also complete lesson reflections.

Teaching Week Lesson Plans

The candidate will create three Teaching Week Lesson Plans using the template provided and submit it to his/her host teacher for evaluation before the lessons will be taught. The host teacher can suggest changes and improvements at that time. The candidate will submit each teaching week lesson plan in Blackboard for evaluation. Teaching Week Lesson plans are due in Modules/Weeks 4, 7, and 10. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Teaching Week Reflections

After each teaching week, the candidate will complete the teaching week reflection form and submit it in Blackboard. The teaching week reflections are due in Modules/Weeks 6, 9, and 12. (MLO: A, B, C, E)

LiveText Portfolio

Phase 1 Quiz

In Module/Week 3, the candidate will explore the Portfolio template. The candidate will answer five questions relating to the Portfolio assignment. The candidate is allowed to refer to notes and the textbook at any time during the assessment. The candidate is allowed 30 minutes to choose the correct answers to 5 true/false questions. A single attempt is allowed for this quiz. (MLO: C, E)

Phase 2 Quiz

In Module/Week 13, the candidate will continue uploading and developing previous and current assignments into the LiveText portfolio template. The candidate will answer five questions relating to the LiveText Portfolio assignment. The candidate is allowed to refer to notes and the textbook at any time during the assessment. The candidate is allowed 30 minutes to choose the correct answers to 5 true/false questions. A single attempt is allowed for this quiz. The candidate will confirm that these tasks are in progress by taking the LiveText Portfolio Phase 2 Quiz. (MLO: C, E)

LiveText Portfolio

In Module/Week 15, the candidate will create and submit a portfolio through LiveText. This portfolio will include eight different required sections, including the Cover, Resume, Degree Completion Plan Audit (DCPA), Field Experience Log, Preliminary Performance Assessment, Field Experience Learning Summary, Benchmark Assignments, and the Media Gallery. Dispositions Assessment

The candidate will complete the Dispositions Assessment in LiveText. This allows the candidate to identify how he/she has demonstrated or reflected the dispositions of social responsibility, commitment, reflection, integrity, and professionalism. These dispositions are identified as SCRIP. The Dispositions Assessment should be submitted by the student by Monday of Module/Week 14 in LiveText. (MLO: A)

Honor Code Quiz

This 2-question quiz evaluates the candidate’s integrity regarding the field experience, mentor document submissions, and course assignments. This is due by Friday of Module/Week 16. (MLO: A)

Exit Survey

The Exit Survey rates the candidate’s preparation through the overall program experience. This is due by Friday of Module/Week 16. (MLO: A)
