Course Description

Candidates will participate in a supervised 30-hour field practicum designed to link theory with practice. This practicum may only be repeated one time with prior approval from the program chair. Completion of at least 30 hours is required in order to pass the practicum course.

Rationale

Candidates are required to engage in developmental and sequential field experiences throughout their program. Candidates will complete practicum experiences that correspond to the co-requisite course identified in the candidate’s degree completion plan. Candidates will assist in the classroom as well as teach one or more formal lessons.

After submitting the practicum placement request, the candidate will complete the five-question practicum request quiz (CLO: E).

After reviewing the 2 mapping out your field experiences videos, the candidate will complete a 5-question quiz (CLO: E).

Quiz: Practicum Expectations

After reviewing the field experience handbook and advising guide, the candidate will complete the 10-question practicum expectations quiz (CLO: E).

After reviewing the LiveText Information document, the candidate will complete a five-question quiz (CLO: E).

The candidate will complete this quiz to track their progress in the practicum preparation (CLO: E).

After reviewing the Career Services Information document, the candidate will complete a five-question quiz (CLO: C).

Quiz: Practicum Placement

The candidate will complete a two-question quiz to indicate if a placement has been secured for the practicum (CLO: E).

Field Experience: Part 1 - Planning Your Field Experience Assignment

The candidate will make a plan to complete the practicum requirements. (CLO: E)

Field Experience: Part 2 - Self-Monitoring Assignment

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the practicum. (CLO: E)

Field Experience: Part 3 - Pre-SCRIP Self-Assessment Assignment

The candidate will reflect on the SOE SCRIP dispositions to rate their performance on the SCRIP dispositions during the practicum. The candidate will write a justification (3-5 sentences) with specific examples (minimum of 3) to support the rating given for each disposition. (CLO: C, D)

Field Experience: Part 4 - Self-Monitoring Assignment

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the practicum. (CLO: E)

Field Experience: Part 5 - Field Experience Summary Quiz

After reviewing the information related to the field experience summary, the candidate will complete a field experience summary quiz. (CLO: A)

Field Experience: Part 6 - Pre-CPAST Self-Assessment Assignment

The candidate will use the Pre-CPAST assignment to reflect upon the overall practicum experience, including the lesson presentation. (CLO: B, C)

The candidate’s performance will be evaluated during practicum using the Pre-CPAST Assessment. (CLO: A, C)

The candidate will provide documentation of completion all practicum requirements. (CLO: A)

The candidate will submit the final practicum assignment. (CLO: C)
