Course Description

This course is offered online only. It represents the formal research and writing of the Dissertation under the supervision of the Dissertation Chair and with input from the dissertation committee.

EDCO 988

Rationale

Under the direction of a dissertation chair, the doctoral candidate writes a dissertation manuscript in preparation for the dissertation defense.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the candidate will be able to:

  1. Describe the primary steps of the dissertation process
  2. Develop a timeline, semester goals, and write progress reports regarding his or her dissertation
  3. Execute research and collect data
  4. Complete a dissertation defense with committee

Course Assignment

The candidate will read and adhere to all policies, guidelines, and procedures in the  Dissertation Handbook.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the candidate will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

The candidate will post a progress report update in Week 1, 5, 10, and 15. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. The chair will assign a pass/no pass grade for each post. (MLO: A, B, C, D)

The candidate will complete 4 dissertation submissions during the course in order to demonstrate measurable progress.  The dissertation will be submitted in Blackboard and may be reviewed informally by the chair for improvement over previous drafts. The chair will assign a pass/no pass grade for the submission. If the manuscript is ready for a full formal review by the chair the candidate should email the chair requesting a full formal review of the manuscript. (MLO: C, D)
