EDAS 742 Educational Leadership and Public Relations

The Educational Leadership program is designed to provide individuals with the concepts, skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary to positively contribute to the field of education. The purpose of Educational Leadership and Public Relations is to provide insight into the role of the institutional leader in the systematic promotion of a program, in crisis management, in directing the vision, in implementing the institution’s philosophy, and in fulfilling the institution’s mission. The participants in the class will explore relevant research on the philosophies and theories of public relations, including those biblical examples which provide a model for success and failure.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate will compose a response to each provided discussion prompt and reply to at least 2 classmates’ threads. Comparative Article Critique Assignment

The candidate is required to review a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed journal articles published in the last 2 years that describe the public relations role of school leaders. The candidate will write a single essay that critiques, compares, contrasts, and develops summary statements for each of the 3 articles. The candidate will also connect the overall theme to a biblical worldview and biblical principles. Completed in current APA formatting, the critique must include a title page, an abstract, Level 1 headings, and a references page listing all articles and biblical references and must adhere to all word count requirements. Community Resources Alignment Project Assignments (4)

The candidate will complete a 4-part Community Resources Alignment Project at either the school or district level. The candidate will submit the 4 assignments in both Canvas and CORE.

Community Resources Alignment Project: Demographic Study Assignment

The candidate will complete a demographic study, which will include reporting demographics in chart/graph form, writing a narrative analysis, and discussing the implications. The candidate will cite at least 2 scholarly sources published in the last 8 years. This paper must be formatted according to current APA style and include a references page. Community Resources Alignment Project: Needs Assessment Assignment

In this assignment, the candidate will determine the needs of the school and community and report the findings in a needs assessment. To do this, the candidate will collaborate with the parent-teacher organization, school administration, and student government to identify needs; interview a community leader about community perceptions of the school and how needs could be met; and identify a list of 5 needs related to different aspects of the school. The candidate will cite at least 3 sources published in the last 8 years. This paper must be formatted according to current APA style and include a references page. All word counts must be followed. Community Resources Alignment Project: Resources Report Assignment

The candidate will write an analysis of community resources, including developing a directory of at least 16 community resources in 4 main categories that can offer assistance. The candidate will also identify at least 4 gaps where needs are not met by school or community resources and suggest solutions for filling those gaps. This report must include an annotated directory and a reference page, cite at least 2 sources published in the last 8 years, and be formatted according to current APA style. Community Resources Alignment Project: Advocacy Plan Assignment

The candidate will write a proposal as the final stage of the Community Resources Alignment Project for this course. The candidate will use the demographic study, needs assessment, and resources report completed in previous modules to develop a proposal. Community Resources Alignment Project: Final Submission Assignment – CORE (CompMS)

The candidate will combine all 4 parts of the Community Resource Alignment Project into a single Word document. The candidate will submit his/her combined document to CORE through the submission link. This will not be part of the Canvas grade.

Biblical Character Analysis Assignment

The candidate will research a leader from the Old or New Testament, analyzing the issues the leader faced when dealing with various publics, the manner in which specific issues were handled, and the consequences of the choices made. The assignment will be 3–5 pages and cite 5 sources in APA format, including the Bible and the course textbooks. (CLO: A, B, F, G)

Case Study Connections Assignment

The candidate will write a 2-page paper on his/her experiences gained from participating in 5 case study Discussions focused on school leadership and school-community relations. The purpose of the assignment is to have the candidate develop a paper discussing personal vision, leadership style based on textbook studies, and develop an action plan based on personal leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
