CG • Section 8WK • 11/08/2019 to 04/16/2020 • Modified 07/28/2020

Course Description

Information technology capstone course converses by focusing on a sequence of projects that designs and builds systems and integrates them into a global business; emphasizes IT project management, enterprise architecture, business requirement analysis, system modeling, acquisition, testing, deployment, and quality assurance. (Formerly CSIS 465)

Prerequisites

CSIS 352 and CSIS 354

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to allow the student to build on knowledge gained in prior core courses of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program. The student will learn: project management; modeling; and how to design, build, test for quality assurance, and deploy an integrated system for a Christian-based global enterprise. The course will prepare the student to be an IT professional who is equipped to help any organization integrate disparate computer platforms and networks in order for the organization to achieve its global strategy.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Integrate a biblical worldview within information technology.
  2. Apply the primary practices of IT project management.
  3. Illustrate modeling techniques that meet functional business requirements.
  4. Evaluate appropriate enterprise architecture, integration, and deployment processes to solve complex organizational technology needs.
  5. Construct an enterprise system prototype that solves an organizational system architecture problem.

Course Assignment

Textbook readings and lecture presentations

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

Discussion Board Forums (2)

Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 300 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and reference at least1 source. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 3 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words.

Group Discussion Board Forums (2)

The student will be placed into groups to discuss and create multiple diagrams in conjunction with his/her Capstone Project. The student will create his/her thread based on a provided topic. The student will also reply to at least 3 group members’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words.

Capstone Project

Phase I

The student will determine the needs of a chosen system in order to develop a basis for his/her Capstone Project and develop his/her project management skills. The student will perform various functions and diagrams to complete this phase.

Phase II

The student will examine and develop various charts and diagrams in order to formulate how the chosen systems will be integrated. The student will perform various activities that describe the different processes within the organization.

Phase III

The student will design and asses his/her system for the chosen organization. The student will perform various activities in order to provide a complete design architecture for his/her chosen organization.

Research Proposal

As this is a research proposal as opposed to a typical research paper, the student will need to propose at least two research designs needed to test the efficacy of the information system they are designing in this class. The student will focus their proposed research designs around a hypothetical organization where their proposed information systems will be implemented. The paper must include at least 5 scholarly references in addition to the course textbook, include biblical integration, conform to current APA standards, and be at least 1,200 words (not including the title or reference pages).
