CHMN 689 Applied Ministry Capstone

This capstone course will be taken in the final semester of the student’s degree program and will assimilate key principles, strategies, and information addressed throughout this program. A major focus of the course will be a substantive capstone project which engages concepts learned throughout the program and showcases their understanding of the knowledge, strategies, skills, and processes necessary for effective ministry implementation and leadership.

The purpose of the capstone course is to provide the student a culminating opportunity to reflect upon and integrate his/her knowledge and understanding of practical ministry strategies and processes. The course is to be taken in the final semester of the student’s program to allow for a full incorporation of all prior course work. The course will provide the student an opportunity to demonstrate his/her understanding of biblical ministry principles while also applying practical ministry skills and concepts in their current ministry context.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is asked to collaborate with his/her peers to identify a ministry problem that he/she will target throughout the course and in the capstone ministry project due later in the course. The student will also explore key leadership and principles as well as the role that formational strategies have in gospel-centered ministry. Each discussion thread must have a minimum of 300 words. In Discussion: Identify Ministry Problem, the student is required to post 3 peer replies with a minimum of 100 words each. Sources in Turabian format are not required for this thread. In Discussion: Biblical Leadership, the student is required to post 2 peer replies with a minimum of 200 words and contain at least one scholarly source in Turabian format per reply. (CLO: B, C, D)

Biblical Worldview Rationale Assignment

In this 4-5 page assignment, the student will discuss the importance of a biblical worldview for modern-day ministry practitioners. The student will also explore biblical strategies to address ministry problems and formational processes. Current Turabian format must be used. (CLO: B, D)

Ministry Project Details Assignment

In this brief assignment, the student will begin thinking through and outlining key details that will help shape and direct the capstone ministry project due later in the course. (CLO: D)

Ministry Case Study Assignment

In this 3-4 page assignment, the student will engage a real-life ministry scenario to offer a biblical perspective on how to address differing perspectives and values among ministry team members. The student will also consider the role that ministry vision has in promoting direction and cohesion among a ministry team. Current Turabian format must be used. (CLO: A)

Vision Assignment

In this assignment, the student will consider the role and value that strategic vision plays in promoting and shaping ministry initiatives. The student will also explore how Scripture can and should inform one’s vision for ministry. Current Turabian format must be used. (CLO: A, D)

Project Research Assignment

In this 4-5 page assignment, the student will gather research from multiple sources related to various aspects of his/her ministry project so as to substantiate the ministry project rationale and strategy. This exercise will also challenge the student to consider the formative elements that could be woven into his/her ministry project to expand the scope and breadth of the project’s potential impact. Current Turabian format must be used. (CLO: B, C, D)

Ministry Project Proposal

This culminating capstone project enables the student to synthesize and assimilate many of the theories, principles, and processes learned throughout his/her academic program. In this assignment, the student will outline a proposed ministry project to address a real-life ministry problem. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Leadership Case Study Assignment

In this 3-4 page assignment, the student will offer a leadership perspective on how to address differing perspectives and values among ministry team members. The student will also consider how to use ministry vision to realign, unify, and direct a ministry team. Current Turabian format must be used. (CLO: C)
