BUSI 651 Employment Laws and Ethics

Students will navigate personal ethics as they examine managerial decisions to anticipate and navigate employment laws, international laws, compliance and determine legal risks.

The purpose of this course is to assist the student in identifying the legal issues for the entering Human Relations (HR) profession, so that he or she may effectively respond and seek competent legal counsel.


Textbook readings and lecture presentations

Readings are presented through SmartBook adaptive learning technology. The student will respond to questions throughout the reading and receive points for correct completion.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Course Overview.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. The student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 800 words, but not more than 1000 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to one (1) other classmates’ thread. The reply must be at least 500 words, but not more than 600 words. For each thread and reply, the student must support conclusions with at least 2 sources cited in current APA format. All written work also requires biblical worldview integration.

The student will complete nine interactive application-based analyses in Connect, which will assess the student’s understanding of key legal topics.

The student will write 500-600 words in response to the provided questions. The student must support their assertions with at least two scholarly citations in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the textbook, provided articles, video, the Bible, and other scholarly sources.

Sexual Harassment Assignment

The student will write 500-600 words in response to the provided questions. The student must support their assertions with at least two scholarly citations in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the textbook, provided articles, video, the Bible, and other scholarly sources.

Right to Hiring Privacy and Personal Information Assignment

The student will write 500-600 words in response to the provided questions. The student must support their assertions with at least two scholarly citations in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the textbook, provided articles, video, the Bible, and other scholarly sources.

The student will write at least 1600 words, but not more than 1800 words, in current APA format that focuses on the Weekly Module. The paper must include at least three references in addition to the course textbook, provided articles, video, the Bible, and other scholarly sources.
