This course provides the student with a foundational knowledge of the legal issues that both start-up and established business enterprises face. Armed with this wisdom, the student will assess an organization’s need for competent legal advice from an experienced professional in matters of contracts, corporations, employment, insurance, intellectual property, international trade, leases, limited liability organizations, partnerships, and homeland security concerns.
The purpose of this course is to expose the student to a select group of legal issues faced by the typical business in today’s business environment. These issues include, but are not limited to, the following: the American legal system, business organizations, contracts, employment law, intellectual property law, and international law. Further, this course equips the student with the ability to analyze the types of legal issues pursuant to a Christian worldview.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze various legal concepts related to the creation and operation of a business.
- Assess the impact of government regulation on business.
- Integrate biblical concepts within the field of business law.

Discussion Board Forums (3)
Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 1,000 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and be supported by 3 scholarly sources other than the textbook/course materials. Each thread must also include at least 2 separate verses from Scripture, quoted and applied as an integral part of the discussion, in the context of a biblical worldview. The thread will be submitted through the SafeAssign link to check for plagiarism, as well as submitted directly on the discussion board in Blackboard. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 450 words, supported by 3 scholarly sources other than the textbook/course materials. Each reply must also include at least 1 verse of Scripture applied to the discussion. Each source must be cited in current APA format.
Commercial Lease Analysis
The student will respond to questions analyzing a commercial building lease. The assignment must be at least 1,200 words and include at least 3 scholarly sources other than the course textbook/materials.
Each quiz will cover two module weeks' assigned Reading & Study material. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 20 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 1 hour time limit.
APA citation for scholarly sources and research papers will be used for every course in the School of Business. This brief quiz in Week 1 will allow students to become familiar with more common citation issues.
The student will read and analyze a scholarly source similar to those used throughout this course and the degree program. The student will annotate and comment on the source through Connect and create APA citations.
