BIBL 810 Theology of the Gospel

An examination of the gospel and its implications for ministry and the Christian life with special focus on understanding the gospel in the context of the entire biblical narrative, cultivating a gospel-centered life, and viewing ministry through the lens of the good news of Jesus Christ. The gospel is at the heart of Christian ministry and identity. In order to synthesize, assess, and design programs for gospel ministry, the gospel message must be properly understood. Ministers of all stripes and backgrounds must be equipped with a biblically rooted, theologically rich, and pastorally sensitive understanding of the good news.

Discussions (5)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to the threads of at least 2 other classmates’. Each reply must be at least 250 words. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Book Reflection: Becoming the Gospel Assignment

The student will submit a Book Reflection based upon Michael J. Gorman’s Becoming the Gospel. The Book Reflection must contain 1,000–1,250 words written in current Turabian format. The reflections will summarize 3 major ideas which the student found helpful for his or her own theology of the gospel and philosophy of ministry and 1 major idea which the student disagreed with the author. The majority of the reflections will focus on the ideas which the student gained from reading this book. (CLO: D, E)

Theology of the Gospel Paper Assignment

The student will submit a research-based paper consisting of 3,000–3,750 words in current Turabian format.The paper must include at least 10 sources in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible (not to include websites). The paper will focus on articulating and reflecting upon major ideas in the course. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

The student will submit a Book Reflection based upon Dallas Willard’s The Great Omission. The Book Reflection must contain 1,000–1,250 words written in current Turabian format. The reflections will summarize 3 major ideas which the student found helpful for his or her own theology of the gospel and philosophy of ministry and 1 major idea which the student disagreed with the author. The majority of the reflections will focus on the ideas which the student gained from reading this book. (CLO: D, E)
