AVIA 745 The Economic Environment of Aviation

This course will investigate and explore the growth and sustainability of the aviation industry in terms of economics, the environment, and its impacts on other industries. Candidates will evaluate current research and critically analyze current and future problems related to aviation growth and sustainability. Candidates will be challenged to apply a biblical world perspective to solving problems and issues related to aviation growth and sustainability.

The purpose of this course is to prepare the candidate to critically investigate and conduct research in the area of aviation economics and sustainability. The course explores aviation economics and sustainability through a biblical worldview, economics, leadership, technology, and ethics lenses.


Textbook readings and lecture presentations

The candidate will complete assigned readings from one course text and three course documents.

Video Discussion: Class Introductions

The candidate will complete the Video Discussion: Class Introductions in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include a 2-minute minimum recorded presentation. Be creative with the presentations. It is recommended that the candidate uses Kaltura to create the presentations. If the candidate is not comfortable with Kaltura, a technology medium must be used that allows the presentation to include the candidate’s face and audio. In addition to the initial video thread, the candidate must post 2 replies of at least 150-words.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate will complete three (3) discussions in this course. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Research Paper Assignments (3)

The 3 research papers should focus on:

  • Module 1: Airline Bankruptcy – The purpose of this assignment is to examine the occurrences of airline bankruptcy, exploring its historical context, key contributing factors, and impacts on stakeholders within the aviation industry. 
  • Module 3: Aviation Economic Concerns – The purpose of this assignment is to explore the economic challenges facing the aviation industry and propose solutions informed by Biblical perspectives.
  • Module 5: Aviation Economic Forecasting – The purpose of this assignment is to explore various forecasting tools used in the airline industry to enhance economic efficiencies and promote economic sustainability. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Final Research Paper: Arline Economic Stability Assignment

The purpose of the final research paper is to synthesize key findings from previous research papers about airline bankruptcy, aviation economic concerns, and aviation economic forecasting and identify five essential factors necessary for airlines to maintain economic stability. (CLO: A, B, C, F)

Reflection Paper Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on what was learned in this course incorporating information learned and its application to the economic growth and sustainability of the aviation industry. Incorporate a Biblical Worldview into the information learned including the personal application of one’s position and influence as it relates to biblical relevancy connected to implications in support of the multifaceted factors of economic stability and vulnerabilities within the aviation industry.
