Course Description

This course provides perspective on the study of aviation. Students will research key areas relating to aviation, history, leadership, ethics, and risk. Students will be challenged to synthesize these concepts with a Biblical perspective.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to prepare students to work in the field of aviation applying their expertise with a biblical perspective. Specifically, this course is a deep look at how biblical principles can be a guiding force in aviation, leadership, ethics, and risks.

Discussion: Class Introduction

The student will introduce him/herself to the class by answering some questions about him/herself in a discussion thread of at least 150 words. Each student must also reply to 2 other classmates. Reply posts are required to be at least 100 words.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 3 Discussions in this course. The student is required to post one thread of at least 400 words and two replies of at least 250 words to two classmates’ threads. (CLO: A, C, D, E)

Article Critique Assignments (3)

The student will research and select articles written five years ago or less.

Article Critique: Aviation History Assignment

The student will find an article that details a historical event in aviation that has relevance today. The student will write a 2-3 page summary of the article and offer a critique of the article. 

Article Critique: Aviation Leadership and Ethics Assignment

The student will find an article that details current trends and methodologies leadership and ethics in aviation. The student will write a 2-3 page summary of the article and offer a critique of the article, which may include how the student may apply the concepts of great aviation ethical leaders. 

Article Critique: Aviation Risks Assignment

The student will find an article that describes issues of risk in aviation. The student will write a 2-3 page summary of the article and offer a critique of the article, which may include how the student may apply the conclusions and ideas presented.

Research Paper Assignment

The student will write a paper regarding an aspect of aviation leadership, ethics, or risk management or a combination of some of these topics. The paper should address the impact of current technologies and safety methods on aviation or the student may elect to focus on new technologies and future initiatives

The paper will be 10 pages using APA style (Title Page, Abstract, and Reference pages are not included in the page count). Proper grammar, spelling and references are required. The most current sources means within 5 years of today’s date. Make sure to cite all facts in text.

The paper will be on an aviation topic of the student's own choosing because, presumably, the student will be interested, and do a better job. Keep the topic narrowly focused on the student's aviation topic.

Quiz: Research Paper Topic Selection

In this assignment, the student must identify and explain the reason(s) the student has selected the specific topic the student has in mind for the Research Paper. The paper should be on a topic of the student's own choosing, providing the student an opportunity to explore deeper a specific topic or event included in the course materials or an aviation topic the student would like to pursue independently.

Recall the paper should include an aspect of aviation leadership, ethics, or risk management or a combination of some of these topics.  The paper should address the impact of current technologies and safety methods on aviation or a focus on new technologies and future initiatives.

This proposal needs to be one page in length, but if the student needs additional space to discuss the student's ideas and reasons, please limit to no more than two pages. This paper must be at least 500 words.  Proper grammar and spelling are required. Potential references the student plans to use in the research paper may also be included, but are not required with this assignment.

Note:  Final points for submission of topic selection paper will be included within the final grade of the final Research Paper.

Quizzes (6)

The student will complete six quizzes in this course. All quizzes will be open-book/open-notes. The first three modules will have APA 7th Edition quizzes with 5 questions each and the remaining quizzes will contain 10 multiple-choice questions. The allotted time for each APA quiz is up to 30 minutes and other quizzes will allow 1 hour to complete. (CLO: B, C, E)
