Course Description

This course is the second of three sequential flight training courses that include the requisite aircraft and simulator training and experience required for the FAA Commercial Pilot practical test. During this course, students will complete approximately one third of the aircraft and simulator training and experience hours required in the applicable commercial pilot training course outline (TCO).

AVIA 325 and AVIA 220 and AVIA 225 and Flight training affiliate with a score of 5

Rationale

The purpose of AVIA 326 is to in part (this is the second of three consecutive courses), prepare the student to complete the written FAA Part 141 Commercial Pilot Test, complete approximately 40 flight hours of the FAA Part 141 Pilot Syllabus, and to successfully pass the FAA Commercial Pilot in-flight check ride. The practical flight training consists of scheduled weekly flight lessons with an FAA Certificated Flight Instructor. These flight lessons include in-flight training, flight simulator training, as well as pre-brief and post-brief ground training. Completion of this course requires the successful completion of at least 66% of the Commercial Pilot Training Course Outline (TCO) at the applicate LU Flight Training Affiliate.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge and flight skills proficiency to progress in the commercial pilot training curriculum.
  2. Discuss topics relevant to commercial pilot flight operations.
  3. Analyze commercial pilot topics using relevant aviation resources.
  4. Describe how having a biblical worldview affects the roles of professional aviators.

Textbook readings and lecture presentations

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

Class Introductions

The student will post an introduction responding to questions in the Discussion Board Forum. The thread must be at least 150 words.

Weekly Progress Reports (8)

The student will complete a weekly progress report that includes a description of the week’s flight training. This is a graded journaling assignment that enables the course professor to monitor student progress.

Course Quizzes (4)

Each quiz will cover topics relevant to commercial flying/aviation covered in the Reading & Study material for the assigned module/week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 20 multiple choice questions and have a 90 minute time limit.

Video Presentation

The student will choose from a list of provided topics and then prepare, record, and submit a 4–6-minute video presentation/briefing about that topic.

Meeting with Professor

The student will meet with the flight course professor via Skype (or other means) to discuss training progress, expectations, etc. at least one time during the term.

Complete 66% of the Flight Training Affiliate Commercial Pilot TCO

During the term, the student must complete 66% of total flight and simulator training hours required in the applicable commercial pilot training course outline.
