AMOA 207 Medical Office Coding

This course trains students in medical procedural and diagnostic coding skills. Emphasis is placed upon the utilization of coding manuals for insurance claim processing.

The student will learn the different components of a Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) book as well as CPT codes. The basics of the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), coding and how to locate information in the coding book will be covered.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be at least 100 words, integrate at least 1 scholarly citation, and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates. Each reply must be at least 50 words and must integrate at least 1 scholarly citation. Current APA formatting must be used to cite all sources, and must include in-text citations and a corresponding formatted reference list. Each discussion should include appropriate scripture/biblical integration.

Homework Assignments (8)

The student will complete 8 Homework Assignment chapter exercises on the Connect site using the corresponding reading assignments. Encoder Pro-Epin medical coding software will be used for some assignments to assess understanding of concepts.

Interact Activities (8)

The student will complete 8 Smart Book Learning activities to enhance learning and interact with the reading and study materials. 

Quizzes (8)

The student will complete quizzes based on the readings, interact activities, and homework assignments to enhance and evaluate learning. Each quiz will contain 40 multiple choice, true/false, and matching questions, allow for 1 attempt, have a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes, and will be open-book/open-notes.
