ENHS 410 Emergency Response Management

This course will instruct the safety professional in the technology and science required for successful emergency planning and management. Risk management techniques for extreme events where human life is imperiled and the implementation of plans which effectively identify and respond to those risks will be incorporated. Students will additionally review causes and prevention of workplace violence. Attention will be given to possible ways for integrating a Biblical Worldview into emergency management planning.

This course is required for the student enrolled in the B.S. in Environmental Health and Safety online. The course offers the student the opportunity to explore risk management issues as they relate to the management perspectives in Emergency Response efforts.

Discussion

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. For the thread, the student must support assertions with at least 1 scholarly citation. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words. All threads and replies must reflect critical thought. Relate the course content to real-world applications with biblical perspectives and cite a minimum of 1 source, per response, in current APA format.

Video Discussion

Video Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to complete the Video Discussions in this course in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include a 2-minute minimum recorded presentation. Be creative with the presentations. It is recommended that the student use Kaltura to create the presentation. In addition, the student must post 2 replies of 100 words minimum in a scholarly format that is positive, engaging, and supports information provided by the initial presenter. The response should engage the thread and provide further dialogue with the presenter.

Hazard Risk Management Paper Assignment

This narrative paper provides the student with the opportunity to share a personal philosophy of Emergency Management Hazard, Risk, Exposure, and Disaster. Based on his/her worldview and personal philosophy, develop a framework that describes a personal philosophy of leadership in emergency management. Most secular safety professionals would not have a clear idea of how this could be done in a Christian manner, and even some Christian professionals may not envision how this could be effectively accomplished. The student will complete a 3-5-page paper in current APA format. Rreferences are not required unless the student refers to information that warrants documentation. 

Developing the Emergency Operations Plan Paper Assignment

This narrative paper provides the student with the opportunity to explain the systems approach to emergency management. Within the paper, the student will explain the FEMA “Whole Community” approach and how this would work in his/her local community. Most secular safety professionals would not have a clear idea of how this could be done in a Christian manner, and even some Christian professionals may not envision how this could be effectively accomplished. The student will complete a 3-5-page paper in current APA format. References are not required unless the student refers to information that warrants documentation. 

Disaster Recovery Assistance Funding Paper Assignment

This narrative paper provides the student with the opportunity to explain the federal resources of the Disaster Recovery Assistance Funding Program. Within the paper, the student will explain the process and steps on how this would work in his/her local community. The student may use the most recent national incidents as a backdrop for his/her paper. Most secular safety professionals would not have a clear idea of how this could be done in a Christian manner, and even some Christian professionals may not envision how this could be effectively accomplished. The student will complete a 3-5-page paper in current APA format. References are not required unless the student refers to information that warrants documentation. 

Leading, Managing, and Worldview Reflection Paper Assignment

Reflections are opportunities for the student to reflect on course material to better understand the material and himself/herself. This reflection covers interdisciplinary habits as a worldview modifier, and his/her reading of Covey. The student will focus on his/her perspective on Leading and Managing in the trying times of Emergency Management.

After a full review surrounding the textbook 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the student will provide his/her Christian Worldview perspective on Leading and Managing in the trying times of Emergency Management. The student will not just quote the source but explain the habits as he/she perceives them in his/her own words. The use of an AI platform is acceptable when exploring different perspectives on this topic, generating outlines, and identifying potential research gaps; however, generalized plagiarism of content is not acceptable. It would be good to begin with a definition, but don’t stop there. The student will make it his/her own. The student will complete a 3–5-page paper in current APA format. References are not required unless the student refers to information that warrants documentation.

The student will take 7 quizzes throughout this course. Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Week. The quizzes will be open-book/open-notes; contain 10-20 multiple-choice questions; and have a 30-minute time limit. All quizzes will allow 1 attempt only.
