MMFT 506 Theological and Spiritual Integration in MFT

This course explores the ethical and clinical integration of spirituality in marriage and family therapy (MFT). Students will analyze how faith and spirituality intersect with systemic therapy, family systems theory, and relational ethics. Special emphasis is placed on the AAMFT Code of Ethics, cultural and religious diversity, and the application of spiritually informed interventions in MFT practice. Legal considerations, ethical dilemmas, and research-based approaches to faith-based MFT interventions are also covered.

Spirituality and faith are integral components of many clients’ lives and influence their relational and mental health. This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills to ethically and competently integrate spiritual perspectives into therapy while adhering to legal and professional standards. By exploring the AAMFT Code of Ethics, cultural diversity, and faith-based interventions, the student will develop a holistic approach to working with clients from varied religious and spiritual backgrounds.

Discussion: The Meaning of Integration

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must post a discussion thread of 300-400 words that demonstrates course-related knowledge. The student must support his/her assertions with 3 scholarly citations and a Christian worldview integration in APA format. Replies are not required for this assignment. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

COAMFTE and Integration Assignment

For this assignment, the student will create a 12-slide PowerPoint presentation (PPT) with notes at the bottom of the slides that provide additional details about the content on the PPT slides. PPTs should be visually appealing and include APA-formatted citations on each slide as well as a reference slide listing all references in APA format.

Chapter Review Paper Assignments (3)

The student will write a review of the appropriate chapters in the course textbooks. Each paper must be between 5-8 double-spaced pages and include at least 3 scholarly citations (not including the course texts). The papers should be divided into 3 sections: summary, interaction, and application. Along with scholarly citations, the interaction section should include 3 insightful observations gained from the chapter. Each paper must be in current APA format and include a title page and reference page. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Personal Faith Integration Assignment

This is a 6-8 page paper about personal worldview considerations. In addition to the Holy Bible, 4 scholarly references must be used. This paper will be written in APA format, 7th edition (revised), professional standard.

The student will rate him/herself on the nine dispositions required for this program. The quiz will contain 9 multiple-choice questions and 1 essay question and is limited to 1 hour. The student is allowed 1 attempt to complete the quiz.

Quizzes (2)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, allow for 1 attempt, and have a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Quizzes will contain 25 multiple-choice questions, with 1 quiz containing 25 multiple-choice and true/false questions. (CLO: A, C, D)
