CINE 789 Screenplay Workshop Final Project

This intensive workshop is designed to guide the student toward a solid first draft of their original screenplay. During this phase, the instructor and class members will focus the course work on the critical review of the script. In a supportive evaluation, the draft will be analyzed in terms of story structure, character, dialogue, theme, narrative development, plausibility, castability, and marketability.

The professional screenwriter must have written at least one screenplay in order to enter the professional of writing for the screen in the film industry. This master class is the beginning of the first draft of a professional screenplay for the student.

Peer-Review Discussions (3)

Peer-Review Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, for each Peer-Review Discussion, the student will post one thread of a previously submitted writing assignment from the prior Module: Week. Then, the student will post two replies of at least 250 words to his or her peers’ threads, providing constructive criticism on the form, storyline, and content.

Discussion: Reflection

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for this Discussion. The thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words. (CLO: A, B, C)

Screenplay: Act One Assignment

The student will construct act one of his or her feature screenplay and submit to classmates and instructor for review of story, character development, dialogue, conflict, theme, and action. This draft is to be 20-30 pages in length and must follow industry-standard formatting. (CLO: A, B, C)

Screenplay: Act Two Assignment

The student will construct act two of his or her feature screenplay and submit to classmates and instructor for review of story, character development, dialogue, conflict, theme, and action. This draft is to be approximately 50 pages in length and must follow industry-standard formatting. (CLO: A, B, C)

Screenplay: Act Three Assignment

The student will construct act three of his or her feature screenplay and submit it to the instructor for review of story, character development, dialogue, conflict, theme, and action. This draft is to be approximately 25 pages or less in length (based on a 100 page script) and must use industry-standard formatting. (CLO: A, B, C)

Screenplay: Final Draft Assignment

The student will submit the first full draft of his or her full-length feature film script in industry-standard format. This draft is to be 90-110 pages in length and must include all 3 acts. (CLO: B, C)
