Rationale
Collections management is one of the primary duties of any museum or archival professional who will occasionally be required to perform in this capacity notwithstanding their official job description. This course provides a solid core to the program’s core graduate public history discipline curriculum while preparing the student for a career in museum or archival management.

Discussions (8)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for 8 discussions. Each thread should must be at least 250 words and should demonstrate course-related knowledge. For each thread, the student must support their assertion with at least 1 footnote citation in current Turabian format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words and should be supported with at least 1 footnote citation in current Turabian format. Any sources used must be cited utilizing current Turabian style footnotes. Any sources cited must have been published within the last 5 years.
Essay Assignments (8)
The student will complete 8 essay assignments in this course. Each essay should answer the required prompts and utilize at least 3 references. Each essay should be at least 2 pages double-spaced, not including the title page and bibliography, and should utilize current Turabian format for footnotes and the bibliography.
Course Spanning Project Task Assignments (4)
The student will complete 4 Course Spanning Project Task Assignments in the course. Each Course Spanning Project Task Assignment will consist of an explanation of the student’s chosen museum’s fictitious collections policy and should be at least 2 pages, single-spaced. All 4 Course Spanning Project Task Assignments will be compiled into a final collections management policy to be submitted as 1 Word document. The final assignment will include a collections policy based on the museum’s mission statement, an accession and a deaccession/disposal policy, a loan and pest control policy, and an ethics policy. Citations and a bibliography are not necessary for these assignments. Only the Course Spanning Project Task 4: Ethics Policy Component and Project Completion Assignment requires a title page for the overall collections management policy.
