Informed Consent Video Assignment

Informed consent is a critical aspect of client self-determination and ensuring that clients have the information necessary to make genuinely informed decisions in their own care. As the student will learn, informed consent has many components, including the provider’s information (training, credentials, specialties, etc.), risks and benefits associated with treatment/care, billing information, and limits of confidentiality (among other relevant information).

This assignment is designed to help the student begin to become comfortable with professional communication and delivering critical information to his or her clients. The student will create a short video using a webcam, tablet, or other appropriate device, conducting an informed consent session on the limits of confidentiality, while also pretending that the camera is his or her client.  Once completed, the student will upload the video to YouTube (or another video hosting site accessible to the public), submit the link on Canvas, and post the link as part of the initial thread for the Discussion Thread: Informed Consent Assignment.
