In writing a dissertation, scholars must first examine related literature to determine the theoretical or conceptual framework of the proposed study. Finding gaps in the literature, problems that need to be solved, and practices that need to be improved will help researchers determine the need and value of the research they wish to do.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words. (CLO: F)

The student will write a 3-5 page research-based paper in current Turabian format that focuses on the student’s chosen dissertation topic. The paper must include at least three reference(s) that can include the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLO: A)

The student will download a short paper and make needed corrections so that the paper reflects current Turabian style. (CLO: B)

The student will develop or select a research matrix or choose one commercially available and write a 1-2 page paper explaining the reasons for making his or her choice. At least two sources should be referenced in this assignment. (CLO: B)

The student will fully document at least ten resources on their chosen matrix, including proper Turabian formatting for footnotes and bibliographic entries. (CLO: B)

The student will write a short paper demonstrating abilities to paraphrase, summarize, and synthesize information from studies relating to the chosen topic. The paper will reference at least four studies and will demonstrate current Turabian style. (CLO: D)

The student will develop a spreadsheet-based synthesis table, enter at least ten research studies into the table, and include a Turabian-style bibliography taken from the matrix or RefWorks. (CLO: B, D)

The student will write a one-paragraph overview of the related literature chapter, including the goal(s) of the chapter and at least five main topics of discussion. The paragraph will reference at least two sources (the textbook can be one) and will demonstrate current Turabian formatting. A title page and bibliography will be included. (CLO: B, E)

The student will write a paper with a minimum page count of two pages identifying and describing the leading theories of the study, connecting the theories to the planned research, and accurately referencing at least ten sources, not including the textbook. (CLO: B, E)

The student will construct an extended outline of the proposed literature review chapter. Sections of the outline will include the overview, framework, review of the literature (by topic or other descriptors, with parenthetical referencing), conclusion or summary, and bibliography. A title page in dissertation style is required. To help the student brainstorm and structure his or her ideas, the student will use Microsoft Copilot to generate an initial draft of the literature review outline. The student will then revise the AI-generated outline by modifying at least 50% or more of its content—either by rewording, restructuring, or by adding original material—to reflect the student’s specific topic. (CLO: C)

The student will submit a paper of at least 12 pages, following the outline from the Outlining Assignment above, that includes the overview, framework, and description (paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing) and at least 13 sources. Title page, outline, and bibliography must be included, and current Turabian formatting is required throughout. (CLO: E)

The student will continue to develop the rough draft by adding 12 pages (so the text of the paper is at least 24 pages long) and 13 sources, bringing the total sources to 26. The paper will include all sections from the first draft, with corrections highlighted to reflect changes.  (CLO: E)

The student will finalize the rough draft by completing and editing a 35-page literature review incorporating at least 40 unique sources. This paper will be edited with Grammarly or another online editor before submission. (CLO: E)

The quiz will ask students to verify that they have edited their final draft with Grammarly. This quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. This quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 true/false question, and have a 10 minutes time limit.
