This course examines and then equips students for conducting qualitative research in health sciences with a focus on five qualitative designs: narrative phenomenological, grounded theory, ethnographic, and case study.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a 500-worded thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion, supporting his/her assertions with at least 2 scholarly citations in APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to give a 300-worded reply of to at least 2 other classmates’ threads.
The student will create a design graphic organizing the research topic based on the methodology to be used. The research design (grounded theory, ethnographic, narrative, phenomenology, case study) and sampling and data collection, as well as analysis methods, should be included.
The student will complete an annotated bibliography of five different sources identifying the research approach, interpretive framework, research questions, data collection methods, subjects/participants, research characteristics, key findings and critiques/limitations/questions.
The student will conduct the interview protocol refinement process to develop interview questions aligned with research questions. The student will conduct a 10-minute interview to better understand and explore research subjects’ opinions, behavior, and phenomenon.
The student will conduct a field observation used to gather information regarding behavior of people within their natural settings. The field observation may be completed using a voice recorder, video, or hand-written note taking.
In order to become familiar with the commercial offerings and the state of the art in qualitative data analysis, the student will research three (3) qualitative analysis computer programs and construct a report on each. Assignment must be 3-5 pages total, in APA format, with minimum of 3 citations.
The student will complete a transcription and coding activity to identify themes and establish codes within a data set.
The student will write a 10–15 paged research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the student’s selected research topic. The paper must include at least 10 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.
The student will take two quizzes in the course. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and will cover the Learn material from assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will contain 46 or 48 questions (can be multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer) questions and have a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
