Rationale
This course provides the foundational understanding for the organization and function of the public health and health care delivery systems in the United States. As a core requirement in the study of public health, it presents the public and private sector entities that impact both individual and population-based aspects of health care, including health policy and planning, legal and ethical issues, and safety and preparedness. The course will emphasize critical examination of the health care delivery system as it currently exists, and of contemporary efforts to improve its efficiency.

Discussion: Cultural Communication in Health
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread of 400 words to the provided prompt for the discussion. The student will then submit replies of 200 words to at least 2 classmates. The student should include at least 1 source that is used in his/her description of the importance of communicating in culturally competent manners when speaking of health content. AMA style formatting is required as relevant, (CLO: A, F)
Resume or Curriculum Vitae Assignment
The student will research the support services available to him/her at the LU Career Center and engage with a Career Coach. The student will create a Cover Letter and a Resume or CV and submit it for critique at the LU Career Center. The student will then submit a screenshot of the submission along with the Cover Letter and Resume or CV. (CLO: B)
Analysis & Recommendation Assignments (3)
A Policy Analysis is an important skill to develop for public health administration. A policy analysis by itself, however, is insufficient. The goal in this assignment is to equip the student to analyze a public health policy—followed up by recommendations to improve the policy or implement the policy in a way that has the best and largest effect on the targeted population without unintended effect on other populations. Each assignment requires at least 5 sources from the last 3 years along with biblical support. All citations must be in AMA format. (CLO: C, D, E, F)
Health Systems Comparison Assignment
The student will compare and contrast 3 different health systems at the local, national, and international levels. The comparison needs to focus on aspects necessary for healthy organizations. The assignment should be 1000-1500 words in length. (CLO: B)
Organizational Leadership & Culture Assignment
In this assignment, the student will be equipped to engage and assess the leadership and administration of governmental organizations. For this assignment, the student is to attend a community meeting hosted by a local governmental entity. From here, the student will reflect on aspects related to the application of conflict resolution skills, cultural competencies, and organizational leadership. This assignment should be 1200-1500 words in length. (CLO: B, D, E)
Disaster Administration Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to examine how a disaster preparedness plan was created by a local or state agency. The student will do this by conducting an interview with someone involved in his/her city/town/state’s governmental administration of disaster preparedness and response. This assignment should be 1200-1500 words in length. (CLO: B)
Quiz: Resume or Curriculum Vitae Career Center Submission
The student will submit his/her Resume or CV for critique at the LU Career Center. This quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 file-upload question, and will have no time limit. (CLO: B)

There will be a quiz in each module that covers the Learn material pertaining to that module. Each of the first 7 quizzes contains 10 multiple-choice and true/false questions with a time limit of 30 minutes. The final quiz contains 10 multiple-choice and true/false questions, but it also contains 5 short answer/essay questions. The final quiz has a 1-hour and 30-minute time limit. The quizzes are open-book/open-notes and allow 1 attempt. (CLO: A, E)
