After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

The student will read each of the books required for the course and write a 500 word paper in Turabian format reviewing the book. The student should discuss their general thoughts about the book, areas they liked and disliked, areas they agreed with and disagreed with, and their thoughts on how the book could be improved. Finally, the student should explain what, if anything, they learned from the reading and how it strengthened or challenged their perspective. (CLO: A, B, D, E)

The site supervisor will prepare two evaluations on the student’s progress and ministry performance. The supervisor and student will meet to go through them together. During this meeting, the student should be prepared to recite two of the Bible memory verses for the course. The student will then submit the supervisor’s evaluation. Evaluation forms are provided in the course. (CLO: A, B, C)

The student will have to lead, teach, and moderate a small group gathering of the church congregation over the duration of the practicum. The small group must meet regularly: on a weekly basis for at least two hours, or equivalent. Over the duration of the semester, the student will have to prepare and submit two distinct lesson plans to teach at two separate small group meetings. The student will submit the lesson plan to the supervisor, and the supervisor will critique it and submit the results. Each lesson plan should be 3 to 5 pages (12 point font, Times New Roman). Evaluation forms are provided in the course. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

The student will help develop a new outreach program to engage the wider community and reach a population of unchurched people. The student will work in conjunction with their supervisor and church leadership for his/her specific ministry setting. Note: the ministry project must be developed and completed during the course–no past projects or projects planned for the future will be accepted. The supervisor will help evaluate the project. Evaluation forms are provided in the course. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

  • Project Plan: The student will write a 350-500 word paper, in current Turabian format, on their plan, how the idea for the project developed, and the necessary preparations. The plan should include how and where the student’s supervisor and church leadership will be involved in the process.
  • Project Report: The student will write a 500-700 word paper in current Turabian format providing an update on how the project is being carried out, what the initial results are, and what changes or improvements could be made.

The student will reflect and evaluate his/her own performance and discuss any opportunities for personal growth, and explain anything he/she has learned throughout this process. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

The student is responsible for submitting a log of hours using a MS Excel Spreadsheet or table in MS Word provided that will list each day the student worked, a brief description of his/her work, and the number of hours worked. At the bottom of the spreadsheet/table the student will need to total his/her hours worked each day.
The student will include the ministry site name and include anything the student does which is ministry-related (i.e. office hours, coffee house time, visits, preparation/planning, etc.). When the internship is completed, the student will email the spreadsheet/document to his/her supervisor and have the supervisor sign off on it. Then the student will ask the supervisor to email it back so he/she can upload it into the course. (CLO: E)
