Rationale
This course is to assist aspiring teachers with the skills necessary to translate their content knowledge into the teaching of literature, writing, drama, and media.
Course Assignment
Discussions and Peer-Review Discussion (3)
Students will interact with peers by discussion course material and directed topics. Discussions should be professional in writing standards. They must be 350-400 words with a 200-250 word reply to a select peer (CLOs: A, B, C, D).
Journal Article Critique Assignments (3)
Students will analyze and critique a journal article from a professional journal. The article must be published within the last five years. Critiques should focus on 1) a summary of the author’s position, 2) an analysis of the author’s key points and the extent to which it is backed up, 3) application of the article in the classroom, and 4) implications to teaching (CLOs: B).
Content Lesson Plan Assignments (3)
Students will write three content lesson plans using the Content Lesson Plan Template. The first lesson plan will be on literature, the second on writing, and the third on drama or media and must include a technology as a component to the lesson plan (CLOs: A, B, C, D).
Three Lesson Plans Assignment
Students will combine their previously submitted Content Lesson Plans after they review, revise, and edit based on previous peer and faculty feedback (CLOs: C, D).
