Under the direction of a dissertation chair, the doctoral candidate writes a dissertation proposal in alignment with the most current Dissertation Handbook. The development of the proposal is in preparation for the dissertation proposal defense, which is the culminating assignment for this course.

Dissertation Handbook

The candidate will read and adhere to all policies, guidelines, and procedures in the Dissertation Handbook, located on the Advising Guide.

Discussion Board Progress Reports (4)

The candidate will post a progress report update in Week 1, 5, 10, and 15. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. The chair will assign a pass/no pass grade for each post. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Proposal Submissions (2)

The candidate will submit 2 proposal documents during the course in order to demonstrate measurable progress. The dissertation will be submitted in Blackboard and may be reviewed informally by the chair for improvement over previous drafts. The chair will assign a pass/no pass grade for the submission. If the manuscript is ready for a full formal review by the chair the candidate should email the chair requesting a full formal review of the manuscript. (CLO: D, E)

Progress Measurement Rubric

In order to pass EDUC 988, the candidate must earn at least 6 points on the Proposal Progress Measurement rubric. If the candidate does not earn 6 points, he or she will receive a No Pass in EDUC 988. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Quizzes (16)

Each quiz will cover the candidate’s progress for the assigned modules/weeks. Each quiz will contain 1 true/false question and have a 30-minute time limit. (CLO: C, D, E)
