An introduction to the historical, theoretical, and philosophical foundations of educational technology and online learning systems; an overview of education technologies including online, classroom, and administrative; and an examination of effective techniques for teaching and learning within these systems.

Foundations of Educational Technology and Online Learning gives the candidate a well-rounded introduction into one of the fastest growing fields in school systems today. This course creates a solid foundation of historical precedence and theoretical framework in the field. Thus, it gives the student the foundational tools required to become a successful contributor in the field of Educational Technology.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be 350 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 150 words. Applying Historical Events and Theoretical Foundations Paper Assignment

The candidate will write a 3-6-page paper in current APA format discussing how the historical events, theoretical foundations, and Twenty-Five Key Principles of Learning from Cognitive Science apply to educational technology and online learning. The paper must include at least 6 references that are current (within 5 years) scholarly and peer-reviewed. (CLO: A, B)

Mini Course Assignments (2)

This is a two-part assignment where the candidate will use a learning management system (LMS) to create a mini course for a chosen context and applies the theoretical foundations of educational technology and online learning, the Universal Design for Learning, SAMR Model, and ISTE Educator Designer Standards (5) to guide him/her as he/she creates the course. Mini Course: LMS Selection Assignment

The candidate will write a 2-4-page paper where he/she chooses an audience (K-12, higher education, adult learners from his/her work setting, or adult learners from the general population), topic, provide course objectives, choose an appropriate LMS, and rationale for the chosen LMS. The rationale must be 1-2 paragraphs long written in current APA format. The rationale must include at least 2 references that are current (within 5 years) scholarly and peer-reviewed. Mini Course: LMS Creation Assignment

The candidate will use an LMS to create a mini-course for either a K-12, higher education, adult learners from his/her work setting, or adult learners from the general population. The mini-course will consist of the following elements: an introduction page with instructor and course introduction that includes 3-5 clearly stated course objectives, activities that align with course objectives, at least one authentic learning activity, 2 content videos created by the student with one utilizing Edpuzzle quiz features, at least two links to other websites that support the topic, at least one printable handout, a discussion forum, and a 15-20 quiz that is scorable and created within the LMS. Evaluating Digital Content Assignment

The candidate will use the Quality Course Teaching & Instructional Practice Course Fundamentals OLC Quality Scorecard to evaluate either a lesson from CK-12 or a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Then, the candidate will write a 2-4-page reflection in current APA format explaining two strengths and two areas for improvement for the evaluated course. The student must support his/her claims with at least 4 current (within 5 years), peer-reviewed references.(CLO: D, E)

Applying the SAMR Model Assignment

For the first part of this assignment the candidate will write a 1-2-page paper in current APA format explaining why he/she believes integrating technology at a high level is important. The paper must include at least 3 current, peer-reviewed scholarly references to support his/her claims. Then, for the second part of this assignment the candidate will choose a learning activity such as a writing assignment, book report, oral presentation, etc., he/she has assigned or will assign to students and explain how he/she could use technology to make the learning activity fall in the redefinition level of the SAMR Model. The candidate must explain why he/she believes this activity now falls into the redefinition stage of the SAMR Model by identifying the task or tasks that can now be accomplished that were previously not possible without integrating technology. Bridging the Gap Presentation Assignment

The candidate will create a 5-10-minute recorded presentation using a presentation tool such as PowerPoint, Sway, Google Docs, Prezi, etc., explaining how he/she will work with the different innovator adopters identified by Rogers (2003) from a biblical perspective. The candidate will think about how Christ worked with these different types of adopters while he was here on earth. (CLO: A, F, G)

3D Printing Assignment

The candidate will create an object on Tinkercad which is a free 3D printing software and upload the image to the course. The candidate will research locations in his/her community where he/she could print the 3D object, but printing the object is not required. Then, the candidate will research two 3D printers and compare their price, materials used to print, print resolution, print speed, and acceptable file format. After that, the candidate will choose which 3D printer he/she would recommend buying. The candidate must provide at least 3 reasons why he/she believes the chosen printer is the better choice. Finally, the candidate will write a 1-2-page proposal in current APA format to an administrator recommending a specific (by name) 3D printer to purchase and explain how a 3D printer could be implemented into the curriculum. The proposal must include at least 2 current (within 5 years), peer-reviewed scholarly references as they explain how a 3D printer could be implemented into the curriculum. (CLO: A, D, E)

Reflection Assignment

The candidate will write a 3-5-page reflection paper in current APA format. The candidate will reflect on the current state of education with how well he/she believes students are being prepared for their future. The candidate will need to provide at least one current (within 5 years) scholarly, peer reviewed reference to support his/her claim. Then, the candidate will reflect on what he/she is doing well as an educator to meet the needs of today’s learners and what he/she can do to improve to better meet the needs of today’s learners. Then, the candidate will need to provide a principle he/she will apply from this course as he/she looks to model how Christ met the needs of individuals. Finally, the candidate will discuss how he/she believes education will change in the next 5 years to better meet the needs of his/her students. The candidate will need to provide at least one current (within 5 years) scholarly, peer reviewed reference to support his/her claim. (CLO: A, F)
