This course is part of the core requirements for the MA in Communication. This course will survey persuasion principles and theory relevant to the effectiveness of successful communication in the academic and workplace environments.

Discussions (2)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. The student will post one thread of at least 400 words and then post 2 replies of at least 200 words. For each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with at least 1 scholarly citation in APA format. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include scholarly (peer reviewed) journals found in the Communication & Mass Media Complete (EBSCO) database through the Jerry Falwell Library website.
Discussion: Research Paper
Discussions are collaborative learning experience. Therefore, the student will complete one (1) research paper discussion within this course. The student will post his/her Research Paper to the Discussion and give feedback to at least 1 classmate. The replies must be 200–400 words.
Journal Article Review Assignments (2)
The student will write a total of 2 reviews, each of a scholarly journal article related to his/her research topic. Each review must be 2 pages and must be formatted in current APA style.
Research Paper Assignments (3)
Research Paper: Title Page/Abstract/Introduction Assignment
The student will work on the first portions of the research paper.
Research Paper: Literature Review Assignment
For this assignment, the student will submit the first half of the paper, which should be a review of the 15 sources found during the research process. This review should be written in paragraph format with appropriate topic sentences for each paragraph. Furthermore, through this literature review, the student should compare/contrast, analyze, and apply the scholarly perspectives presented in the research.
Quizzes (2)
The student will complete a Quiz: Midterm and a Quiz: Final on the textbook readings. Each exam covers Learn material from multiple modules: weeks, is open-book/open-notes, consists of 5 essay questions, allows for one attempt, and has a time limit of 2 hours.
